Hello, Earth! is a beautiful picture book homage to our planet. There are poems that talk about the earth and its place in the solar system, its origins, its geological features and biomes, its creatures, humans' interactions with the planet, and more. The poems are relatively simple and sweet, but the author utilizes poetic devices that add a sense of lyrical style. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and contain so many fun little details; it's almost like an Easter egg hunt to find them all! And at the end of the book is a non-fiction section that talks more in-depth about the concepts from each of the poems, making this sweet book an ideal addition to a classroom library!

I enjoyed the pretty illustration a lot in this book. The poems were cute and great for kids.

Interesting perspective on earth. The "tiny" humans in most illustrations (except with the dinosaurs) give it a certain sense of whimsy, although some might be a bit disturbed by ones caught up in a tornado. There is plenty of back matter in the end. I have enjoyed several of Sidman's previous books, and selected this one when I saw it included on NSTA's Outstanding Trade Book list.

Beautiful illustrations. The poems are read very much like prose. Eh I’d give it a pass.

This wasn't a personal favorite, mainly because I didn't think the poetry was particularly well-written or impactful. Very little imagery was used, which is my favorite type of poetry. It is basically a series of poems/letters/prayers? written to Earth from "humanity". It is fairly broad rather than specific, which is another issue that I had with the poetry--in my opinion, poetry works better with small details and moments rather than general and generic ones, which this book focused on. Is this mostly personal preference? Yes, but I think that there are better picture books out there to talk about the earth and humanity's role with it.

I love love love this book. Utilizing poetry to explore science is beautiful. Sometimes science, especially with little ones, gets bogged down in facts and trivia to appease our brains that we forget to appeal to our hearts as well. The illustrations are also spectacular.
