Falling // T. J. Newman
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“You don’t think everyone actually lives, do you? Most people just exist and roam around. It’s a choice, to actually live.”
This thriller was everything you expect one to be, fast paced, high stakes, and with a handful of plot twists. Overall this book is engaging and quick to read. I read it over the course of one lazy day, as it is under 300 pages. The premise is that before a flight of 149 souls on board takes off, the pilot’s family is taken hostage. He is faced with a choice, kill his family, or crash the plane. It’s a pretty fun read and a good palette cleanser if you need a break from your usual reads. There is another book by this author titled Drowning that is somehow related, and I will be pursing that work.

I was trying to think where I have I seen this book before and like a lightbulb 💡 I realize this is basically every hijacker movie I’ve ever seen.
This was so corny and cliche but still a fun, quick, entertaining read.
The amount of eye rolling I did while reading this 😭😭😭 It just had so many characters that were trying to be tough but it just ended up giving me the ick. Also what was with the flight attendants calling their coworker ‘Big Daddy’ 🙃 I would never 😂
Now I still enjoyed this somewhat, it was a really quick read I read in one sitting. Also even though the plot line was cliche, it had its interesting moments. Also I liked how the author was a former flight attendant and basically used her knowledge to write this book.
The dialogue could’ve honestly been so much better but this read like it was supposed to be a screenplay but just settled for turning this into a novel instead. This honestly could’ve been a bit shorter, it just started to drag.
Still interested in reading other books by them.

Oddly similar to Hostage by Clare Mackintosh that came out just one month before, but was less predictable and had a compelling ending.

I’ve been anticipating reading T.J. Newman’s book, Falling, since its release. Finally, I prioritized it, and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed!
Coming into the book, I had limited knowledge of the storyline, which I believe contributed to my enjoyment of the flight. Essentially, the plot revolves around a flight from Los Angeles to New York. Just before takeoff, the pilot’s family is tragically kidnapped. He faces a life-altering choice: crash the plane, ensuring his family’s survival, or risk their lives by avoiding the crash.
Falling is a gripping and suspenseful read, filled with unexpected twists and turns. I can’t help but feel grateful that I wasn’t reading this book while traveling by plane. The characters were well-developed, and the plot kept me on the edge of my seat. I look forward to reading more books by T.J. Newman.
I borrowed the audiobook of Falling from my local library using Libby. The narration by Steven Weber was exceptional, enhancing the overall listening experience.
I have photos and additional information that I'm unable to include here. It can all be found on my blog, in the link below.
