Fast-paced read. Action-packed from beginning to end with little down time getting into it. All characters were humanized in such a beautiful way—they were thoughtfully written.

If you enjoy hijacking movies, you’ll love this. I’ve seen people mentioning that it’s exactly like every other plane highjacking movie; to that I say, there really aren’t too many variations in which someone highjacks a plane.

This being her debut novel as a flight attendant really made it that much better. You can tell she cares about what she does with every little detail in the book.

I did hate one thing in this book and it was the nickname, “Big Daddy”.

First off, this is basically Speed, just on a plane. It's certainly a heart-racing idea, and the author is very creative. While the overall concept isn't original (I just read a New York Times Book Review article covering three plane hostage thrillers, all of which came out this summer), Ms. Newman has a great eye for identifying plot twists and the book is dotted with them. I wish I could come up with these ideas.

However, she just doesn't have an eye for detail, unless it relates to the plane operations itself (a former flight attendant, the author did extensive research on this hypothetical scenario). Additionally, none of the characters but Bill are truly fleshed out, and the terrorists' motives are terribly stereotypical. The characters just didn't feel real, although I'm sure talented actors could help with that. I look forward to the movie!

But it is a debut novel, so I wouldn't be opposed to reading Ms. Newman's work in the future. This is certainly a good effort, and it was well-written enough that I could finish it in around three hours.
