This is the second book in a duology, but it does not resolve. The ending feels like there's a book 3, but there are not currently plans for one. I felt unsatisfied throughout the book. Manu is on her own. The book is gripping and engaging, but it's a string of Manu telling people she trusts what she wants, being ignored while a plan is made around her, plan going wrong, Manu doing what she feels is right, new problem coming up.

I loved the first one so much, but this just one focuses too much on the romance.

This was super creative and I can't wait for book three. Although, I will admit, I was hoping for just a duology for this one.

I received an ecopy of this book through Netgalley; however, my opinions are my own.

The beginning picks felt a little unsteady while pieces got rearranged to set the stage for the events in this book, but once it was off and running, it was just as exciting and impactful as the first book. The high stakes continue, there are some crushing losses and devastating choices and sacrifices. Definitely too much like the real world to be anywhere near escapism, with an ending to match, but such an important read with an overall message of hope and resilience.

YA series about revolutions never know how to end, and this ending was a mess. I guess it's a realistic ending, but it just doesn't... work
