I listened to this book on audiobook and it's the first audiobook I've listened to and been able to maintain my focus. And you know what? I'm glad I did! This was a great story, perfect for children but written in such a way that it can be enjoyed by anyone, no matter what your age may be. I loved the story and I was so scared for Beauty in some parts. As an animal lover this book angered me in parts, hated hearing how creatures were mistreated and unfairly used but the book also gave me hope, that the world is filled with good and caring people who will help wherever they can, whether it is man or beast that needs their help.
It was a bit old fashioned for me but I still liked the book and just from this book you can understand more about what horses are thinking. This book puts you into the mind of a horse and see the life of a old fashioned horse.

I wasn't sure I had read this book before, but while reading I realized that I had read it as a child. So, this was essentially a re-read but without my prior knowledge.
Black Beauty is about a horse who is black with a white star on his forehead. He goes through his life from being a foal on a nice farm with his mother to his retirement home.
This story is a lot like [b:White Fang|43035|White Fang|Jack London|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388523568s/43035.jpg|2949952], but way less interesting. Most of the stuff Black Beauty does is tow a carriage of people around as a taxi service. There's like three chapters of Black Beauty as an abused work horse, but that gets resolved quickly. Black Beauty leads a very boring life, but at least it's a fast read.

An entertaining children's book with a message of understanding and kindness to animals and the less fortunate. Black Beauty serves as a guide through Victorian era London and the lives and uses of horses during those times. Black Beauty lives at all levels of society and has a varied life that lets the author address many of the different types of mistreatment that horses went through. Beauty and his equestrian and human friends bring real emotion to seemingly mundane issues such as stable management and the lives of cab horses and their drivers. While a modern reader will not experience much of what Beauty describes this book was still had a good message of consideration to all animals and provided a glimpse into the lives of Victorian horses.
All time favorite. Have read it over and over again. Always makes me cry
Anna Sewell wrote this book in the 1870s while lying in bed as an invalid. She died five months after it came out but was alive long enough to see the book take off. And take off it did! 50 million copies sold and counting. A wonderful first-horse view of life from the mid-1800s which includes simple but profound lessons about kindness, friendship, and animal rights.
