Popsugar Reading Challenge 2017: A book with a title that's a character's name.
I CAN'T STOP CRYING!
It is the most beautiful story about how cruel we humans are. I like that it as told by the horse and how good work Anna Sewell has done to study and understand the horses' behaviour.

It was really good revisiting Black Beauty after several years. It remains a personal favorite, not the best book I've read but a really great one with lasting charm. The simple, yet pretty prose, the extremely likable narrator, and valuable lessons---definitely a book that ages well and deserves its reputation as a childhood classic.

i read this as a child, but didn't really appreciate it much. And usually i'm not one for the classics, since i tend to find them rather overrated. However, when i reread Black Beauty, i was so impressed. Sewell brilliantly tells the story from the point of view of Black Beauty himself, and his life in various stages, and all the things he learns about humans and other horses. He goes from loving, gentle owners, to some who mistreat him near to the point of death. The author does an amazing job of conveying their distaste with those who mistreat animals, without being too preachy.
What i find so sad is that so many of the issues raised in this book are things that are still issues today, animal cruelty, bad use of animals for fashion, overworking etc. It's sad that in the many years since this was written, things may have changed, but not improved.
definitely worth a read for adults, as it really hammers home some heartbreaking points, but is still a beautiful story.

The plot is so-so, and the way it is written isn't amazing either, but something about this book makes it really great to read.

Things I liked
I liked the themes of the book: don't be cruel to animals and treat them with respect and cleanness.
I liked how Black Beauty had different names when he was with different owners.
I liked the writing style. It had a old classic feeling but was easy to read.
Things I didn't like
There was a lot of mention about God and the Christian religion in this book.
There was a lot of characters in the book both horse characters and people characters
I also didn't like how Black Beauty understands English. This was frustrating! I don't think horses know English.

A lovely middle grade book. I especially enjoyed this book because of my dad's love for his own pony and my dear aunt's love for her four wonderful horses. Black Beauty feels like a somewhat forgotten children's classic, but a worthy story for young readers. Written from the perspective of the horse, it was a new reading experience for me when I was a kid.
