3.5, to be honest.
It was good, but I had my problems with it. Will explain when it isn't late at night. It was cool, I will be reading more of the series later.

Disappointed in this one. The plot was meh. The character development was meh. And the third person POV was clumsy and hard to follow.

Reread 4/2021 -- Still just as amazing. I loved every second even more than the first time and caught a lot of tidbits I did not catch the first time around. Definitely a must read.
I am sooo happy to finally have read this book and started this series. Let me tell you, I am here for it! Love Ty and Zane and definitely see why so many others do as well. This was a great crime/mystery story with the start of the budding romance. The book is really about the case they are working, but within the story is the feelings that Zane and Ty finally decide to act on/let come to the surface. It is full of angst and a great dose of mystery surrounding this infamous serial they are after. Then there are tender moments that just make you swoon real hard. Loved this book and cannot wait to continue on with Ty and Zane’s journey.

Usual angsty FBI romance. V dramatic
BUT the further i got into this series the more nuanced the characters became and the more i enjoyed it. The beginning of the series may seem a bit cliche at times i found it was worth reading all of the books.

Good story.
It was a little predictable, because I have read so many books so far. All sorts of different scenarios came to my mind about the patterns in the murder and who could possibly be the killer. One of my guesses about the pattern came true while one of the person I suspected turned out to be the killer.
Honestly, if this book had not been recommended to me, I would not have read it. I am glad I read it, though. I will continue reading the series because there seems to be a progress in Ty and Zane's relationship. Also, the book and characters are thought provoking.
Often times, throughout the book, I was mad at Ty about the way he was with Zane. I mean, he would gt mad at Zane for spacing out on him or for drugs. At those parts, I was thinking, "Leave Zane alone, Ty!"
At the beginning of the book, the killer is walking a college student, Allison McFadden, to her apartment. the scene is written in Allison's point-of-view. Thank God the killing is not described at all. I really appreciated that. Anyway, Allison's point-of-view ends with: "Hours later, as Allison struggled for her last breath, she couldn't help but wonder if he'd never kissed her because it would leave his DNA behind."
I was a bit mad at that sentence, because the killer did touch Allison's hand and clothes when he put his arm around her and when they held hands on the way to Allison's apartment building. So, his fingerprints are already on her. He did leave his DNA behind. At the same time, I wondered if the killer perhaps got rid of the clothes she was wearing and wiped the her hands to erase his fingerprints. This book is both maddening and though provoking at the same time.
Honestly, this book was written with lots of effort. I heard that one writer wrote in Zane's perspective while another author wrote Ty's perspective. It was a job well done. Although I kind of suspected who the killer was, the authors did a great job of portraying the killer as someone no one would suspect.
The effort and thought put into the book causes the book to deserve a 5-star rating. However, there were times I did not follow Ty and Zane's conversation because I had no clue what was going on. There seemed to be shifts from one event to the other and we are left wondering: Hey, weren't they discussing something else a moment ago? Wasn't this happening a moment ago? How come this thing is happening now.
I was also mad about them seeing other people when they were not together. For instance, before they were romantically involved, they were attracted to each other. Ty decided to screw someone to stop thinking about Zane. Zane did the same. When they walked away from the case due to serious injury and emotional trauma, they did not see or contact each other for 4 months. At that time, they were with other people. I know they were not cheating on each other, but I still did not like that. Thank you, authors, SOOOOO much for not putting any sex scenes about Ty or Zane with someone else. I HATE it when that is done. I HATE it when a book has kiss or sex scene that involves people other than the main characters, e.g. [b:Midnight Angel|693018|Midnight Angel (Stokehurst, #1)|Lisa Kleypas|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1379571058s/693018.jpg|3242809] by [a:Lisa Kleypas|27847|Lisa Kleypas|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1288899037p2/27847.jpg] where the guy sleeps with his mistress right after meeting the heroine. UGHH!! SOO ANNOYING! At least, this book was not annoying that way.
The book ended in a way that suggested that the two of them are embarking on a journey ahead, together, as FBI partners. I like that. I look forward to reading the next book

A very addictive series ... this was one of my first M/M romance reads. Ty and Zane ... so good! Love it!
The third star is basically only because I really liked Ty and Zane. Apart from that, I'm afraid I didn't enjoy this as much as I had expected to. The writing was - I still haven't figured out the best adjective to describe it. Too much telling when it came to the characters' feelings, definitely, and the pacing was just too rushed, especially considering there was a time break in between. Their feelings and the way they developed felt too scripted to me, which was a pity because there was so much potential. I'm not completely against reading more of this in the future, but I don't want to do so right now.
