I had high hopes for this story, especially with how many people reviewed it, but I have to say it's a bit of a disappointment.
It started well. Interesting characters, not too much info dump, a crime that caught my interest. And the fact that both guy didn't jump at each others the very night they met.
And then... :/ Well, I expected it to be a thriller with a taste of romance, but I ended up with 'real strong men' who got hurt a lot but always jumped back on their feet and a killer who I'd sussed out within 30% of the story, crossing my fingers for a plot twist. I mean, those two protagonistes had to be seriously suspicious assholes with their background, and yet they trusted him without any reason from the beginning to the very end. Also, there were others characters shown five minutes each and never mentioned again, so not really potential killers, which left very few possibilities (by which I mean, only one). The investigation felt rushed and to be honest, barely there.
The sex part was good enough, but the characters balanced between 'I love you. not' and it was all so messy and disjointed that at time I didn't even know where we were in the investigation, since we'd spent the last two chapters watching the guys be 'really strong men' and not talking or misunderstanding each other when they did. And the guy, an ex-Marine, who's strength and 'dangerousness' got praised so many time in the book... was caught unaware by a newbie barely out of the Academy.
Honestly, I don't know why I don't give this thing two stars. And I'm still wondering if I'll buy the next book in the series. But it's got good reviews? I'll probably give it a try again. With all that shit out of the way, maybe the next book will be less disjointed.

I really enjoyed the book.
I liked the characters and the fact that they were snarking at each other all the time. The dynamic duo was fun.
I liked the character depictions, which were lacking in the few last books I read and I really missed that.
The love story was good, not too easy. And the characters have depth so they are not all lovey-dovey. I like that they are struggling with their past, present and future.
The cop story was actually good and it's great to see a M/M romance with a good plot developed for the thriller part. And that part was quite intense. Even if I've probably watched too many cop shows and read too many thrillers so I've guessed how were the bad guy pretty fast (let's say at the first explosion, which was confirmed by the second one...)
But still, it was very breathtaking sometimes and I was wondering if I was really right or if I were misguided.
So I can't wait to read the second book. I'm trying to finish the boring last J.K. Rowling first though. Did I say it was boring?

First mystery/thriller I've read in a very long time. Only here for the M/M romance and banter - enjoyable enough, not desperate to keep reading but will likely try book 2 to see where the relationship goes.
~~BR Reread of series with Renee!!! Starting 23 Dec 2015~~
Since this series and Sidewinder have ended and both are among my all-time favorite M/M series, it's time to do a reread of the all 12 books. I'm stoked! And, to get to reread them with Renee will be amazing!
I am sticking with my original 4 Star rating, because of the very rough POV changes and the (in my mind) unnecessary 4 month separation in the middle of their case. But Ty & Zane are among my favorite MM couples ever! I am really enjoying this reread with Renee!!!
Merry Christmas to us!!
--------Original Review 9 Feb 2014-----------
I have mixed feelings about this one. The writing isn't great, the pacing starts out slow and the constant POV changes made for some confusing reading. I did a fair amount of rereading just trying to figure out who was saying & doing what. Normally, I could read a book this length in about 2 days, but this one took me about twice as long. I really liked the story, though, and I love Ty & Zane. They kept me hanging in there. I think they play well off of one another and their chemistry is quite delicious.
I wasn't a fan of of the 4 month break in the story just as everything seemed to be coming to a head, either. Was a bit immersion breaking. I see why it was done, though.
The second half of the book picks up in the pacing, which made for more pleasant reading and as I got to know Ty and Zane better, I could easily see just how screwed up they both are. Zane's issues are easier to see, on the surface, but he is struggling with so much. Ty tries to keep everything inside even though doing so is untenable.
These two damaged heroes need each other not just to get through this case alive, but to make life worth living at all.

Going to give book #2 a chance, but I had trouble fully investing in the characters and I knew who the killer was about halfway through the book.
The constant POV changes are absolutely wonky and makes the writing sound really bad
