Every year or so, I seem to go through a phase where I find a series that is more serial style and then I binge read all the books. This is going to be one of those series. Did I like the book, it was alright, will I read all of them, most likely. This book was over the top in ridiculousness, the main characters each got wounded multiple times, to the point where they either wound up in the hospital or should have been in the hospital, and yet they were able to do amazing things with all these injuries. I really enjoy Ty, he is less hot and cold than Zane is, he's also got a sense of humor which helps. Zane had to grow on me, he was really hot and cold and I had trouble nailing his character down. They both have somewhat of a traumatic past and towards the end it started to really get on my nerves. Besides the actual physical fight I do think that the chemistry is done well and they have a somewhat realistic relationship, aka they are partners who fuck each other and they try their best to keep it at only that, they fail.

Now the mystery, that was pretty bad, they are legit terrible detectives, I figured it out from the beginning and they never did, the person had to actually show themselves for them to know who the serial killer was.

The book was also too long and needed some editing.

As I write this out I can also say that I think Zane's addiction and then subsequent relapse triggered me a little.

Cut & Run starts off as an engaging, suspenseful romance, combining the cheekiness of buddy cop tale with a raunchy, slowly developing love story. For me, the book captured my attention from the start but it could not be sustained throughout the book.

I loved the snappy interactions between the main characters, Ty and Zane. I was immediately taken by the way these two talked to each other. The dialogue was snappy and snarky with many hints of sexual tension.

The real star of this book is definitely the relationship between the two characters. At the start, we see Ty who appears to be a deeply flawed, abrasive personality and Zane who appears to be rigidly in control of himself but more or less put together alright. So wrong! Both are broken people carrying a lot of baggage with them.

They have so many issues to deal with and the issues aren't something that can be resolved so easily. I like that aspect of this book. It gives the relationship between Ty and Zane a very realistic feel.

The book is not without some flaws of its own. The constant switching of POVs is confusing and really disrupts the flow of the book, making it confusing who is thinking what.

There's a lot of inconsistencies behind both characters' actions such as leaving each other alone even when saying they should stick together. The time jump in the middle of the story adds to this confusion because suddenly, you see this huge switch between the characters' personalities. The reasoning behind that switch just fails to be wholly convincing and the abruptness of it all is a huge leap for the reader to make. Some may make the jump successfully, but I didn't.

Something that bothered me immensely throughout the book is how badly hurt both characters got. It was utterly exhausting how often they got injured. Injured to the point of needing to go to the hospital and yet somehow they don't and their attempts at first aid is pitifully inadequate.

The mystery aspect is hardly a mystery. Anyone could see the big reveal coming a mile off and this shouldn't be a big issue because it's a romance book with just a hint of intrigue to spice things up. Yet somehow I was expecting a little more from this series.

I'm definitely interested to read the next book as I mentioned before, the big draw is the relationship between the main characters.

Overall, an enjoyable read.

Oh good lord. Where do I start? Well the premise is nothing special. Two agents in the FBI that couldn't be MORE DIFFERENT are forced to be partners and they HATE EACH OTHER. There's a serial killer thrown in there too. Now, I picked this up because I wanted a gay romance story, but something with a little substance. Turns out "little substance" is the operative phrase.

The whole story here is incredibly predictable. The agents have SHOCKING BACKSTORIES and turn out to be SO DIFFERENT from how they were originally presented. Oh and they f*ck. Like twice. But they act like it's all the time. Honestly, if that was happening off page, which is never really confirmed but seems unlikely because of the timeline in the book, I would be super pissed. Because what is on the page had a habit of being boring. Of course, there's such a random approach to time that I can't know anything for sure.

Oh, and the killer. Look, I watch a lot of crime procedurals on TV. I know they're not exactly realistic either, but there is NO police work that goes into this. They guess things and have all sorts of assumptions. They spend a bunch of time at the crime scenes and trying to ACT like profilers. I picked up on who the killer was about halfway through the book. And it STILL never occurred to these amazing FBI agents who the killer was. The only reason they ever figured it out was because he tried to kill them. And failed! Damnit...

They eat. Constantly. It's boring. And there's a ridiculous amount of attention paid to which one was hungry when and who got what amount of food because FEELINGS. When they're not eating, they're having the living crap beaten out of them. Seriously, I don't think it's possible for a body to undergo the amount of abuse described in this book. They should have died. Also they had a lot of injuries.

The one thing that was good was the sex scene, but the setup was horrible. It was also pretty clear it was written by two women. And I think there was only one. In the whole book. If there was another one, it was totally forgettable. Plus, neither of them were actually gay! One was still having sex with women through most of the book and the other was pining over his dead wife. And they were so scared of people finding out they were into each other, but no one ever did. Plus they're MEN so they can't just SAY HOW THEY FEEL. It has to be all angsty and stupid and violent. And they're supposed to be like 40.

Last thing, they ended up using the title "cut and run" like 5 times in an absurd amount of time. It was annoying as hell.

You know what, screw it. I was going to give it two stars for at least holding my interest, but this book sucked. The worst part, it somehow spawned a WHOLE SERIES of sequels. Avoid. At. All. Costs.

Constant change in POV got confusing and just seemed poorly edited.

This is one of my absolute favorite books and series. I love it when you can feel the emotions of the characters so vividly! There was also a ton of humor in it. The plot of the story definitely was not overtaken by the romance! I love when a book has the right balance between plot and romance:)
