This was a lot of fun! Some of the plot got a little lost on me at the end, where it felt a little underdeveloped. However this was a novella and part of a series of going on 7 books now so I will give it the benefit of the doubt that those things will be expanded upon. The shining star of the book is its narrator, the self-named Murderbot. Its experiences felt like it really captured what it is like to work a boring job in a capitalist hell scape where profits are valued over human lives. I do feel like the discovery not all humans suck some are nice felt a little too sudden, you just have to take Murderbot's word for it that others have treated it like shit, but this was a fast paced novella and the ending made up for that as Murderbot still isn't sure it can believe that. I'm invested enough in its story to keep reading the series.

I cannot believe this lived up to the hype. Will definitely continue with the series; I've been recommending it to some friends of mine who don't really read anymore but loved Mass Effect. Took off half a star because the way the climax shook out annoyed me a little.

Quite a short read, and it did feel a little as though it ended abruptly, but this is the first book in a series, which I knew going in, so I wasn't super bothered by it.
I'm not gonna say this is a work of high fiction but it was definitely a fun romp - I laughed out loud a few times, and the general reluctance of Murderbot to do pretty much anything other than sit by itself and watch soap operas was extremely relatable. The "Survey member: 'It calls itself Murderbot', Murderbot: 'That was private :('" interaction gave me such teenager thinking they're super edgy but also self-aware enough to know they're being a little embarrassing vibes. Again, extremely relatable.

i love murderbot, my autistic genderless secunit best friend. all it wants to do is watch tv and not talk to humans!
this novel reads like a science fiction narrative podcast, which i adore as a huge enjoyer of those. can’t wait to read more in the series!

Everybody said this book/series was funny. I didn't laugh or even smile once. 😩
