Really struggled figuring out how to rank this one. The adventure, political drama, friendships, and comedy aspects of it are really good.

It’s just hard to love a romance novel where there’s not much making you want to see the couple together. I love Mariel and Clem individually and think the author did a great job with their characters, but there’s not much supporting their relationship on the page. Also, Mariel barely thinks about Clem or does anything nice for her until maybe the last two chapters. I wanted so badly for her to care about her love interest more. Clem deserves someone who will support and respect her, and I’m not sure if I believe that Mariel will.

I have loved Robin Hood stories since I was a kid, and this one was great! I loved the dynamics between the characters and the chemistry between Clem and Mariel was so much fun. Like with other of Croucher's books I have read the plot is a little tropey (although this one is more complex than others I've read) but the interesting and complex characters more than makes up for it. Would read again.

This was truly such a fun read. I love a good re-imagining of a well loved classic. Especially if it involves a queer retelling!! There was some piece to the writing I really struggled connecting too.. I still can’t pinpoint what. But overall it was an easy, enjoyable read.
