The only characters I cared about were the side characters (but tbh Morgan was annoying too. I wanted to like them, but I had no connection until we got some vague elaboration on their motives and even then it felt random and forced)

The main characters had no chemistry until the end, which again, felt rushed and forced.

There were many moments I had to reread because I was confused at how we got from one idea to another within a paragraph. The flow just felt very rushed and not every idea fully executed, rather we jumped from one to another.

To go off that, moments of this book I really liked or wanted to like, were sped through and glossed over. Moments that should have held weight were rushed and then didn’t sit we me as a reader, but rather had the characters telling me it needed to resonate and sit with me. Kinda breaks the show don’t tell rule.

I don’t typically read YA, I think the overall story is good. The representation was VERY good and refreshing to see different people living equally and living in the story without any prejudice for it (other than the classic Robin Hood trope, but that doesn’t play into the representation in this sense). Glad I read it, not sure if I’d read it again, definitely would recommend to others depending on their taste.

Fun! Gay! Fuck the Sheriff and the wealthy lords! But also, not as good as "Gwen and Art"-- feels a bit like a rough draft for that story, actually.

Cute fun adventure. Some violence. Took me a minute to get into this book and am glad I kept with it. The grand children of Robin Hood modernize the story well.

One issue I have with grumpy x sunshine romance novels is too sunny sunshines and too grumpy grumps. Clem was endearing enough. Sometimes unreasonably sunshine-y, but okay. But I had trouble rooting for Mariel. I wasn't buying their attraction because Mariel kind of crossed the line from grouchy to unpleasant.

But, it all came around. I did eventually get on board with both of them and their relationship. But I wasn't rooting for them from the get go. Honestly, I kind of wanted Clem and Josie to get together. Oops! Shipping the wrong ship!

But, I was enchanted with the setting. Loved the corruption of the ideal of the Merry Men, and how the people inside the group struggled to see the changes. As a political allegory, this was working for me!

In the end, I enjoyed this book. Not going to make my "top ten" list, but not every novel needs to be the official greatest book ever. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to read a fantasy adventure romance set in the world of Robin Hood.
