⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/

This sapphic post-Robin Hood retelling is funny, devastating, and such a fun read.

Meril and Clem's early relationship is full of humourous frustration, mostly on Meril's part, as Clem refuses to take anything seriously. Including being kidnapped by the legendary band of outlaws she's idolized her whole life, The Merry Men. As unserious as Clem is, Meril more than makes up for it.

Meril's particular company of Merry Men, although Clem is quick to point out that they're not all men -or merry-, is filled with such loveable characters. The group dynamics are so well written, and each character's personality shines through, even when they aren't a large part of the scene. I found myself attached to each and every one of them.

My absolute favorite part is the casual queerness. There's a ton of representation of so many different gender identities, and it's so casual. There's no 'oh character A is gay and that's a Problem' or 'character B is trans and that's a major hurdle they've had to overcome'. In this world, being queer is common and not seen as something that needs to be announced or fretted about, as it should be in a perfect world. I love reading about queer characters overcoming societal pressure/hate, but it was such a nice change to just read about queer characters being queer and that's just how it is.

If you like slow burn, only one bed, forced proximity, or reading a queer version of stories that have already been told, you should give Not For the Faint of Heart a shot! Just make sure you have a box of tissues handy.

Very cute, very fun, but also cut deep at some points. There were a few deviations from typical tropes that I thoroughly enjoyed!
adventurous funny lighthearted

This was like if Gideon the ninth had Robin Hood elements instead of the mind bending puzzle box space mystery. So if you loved the romantic dynamic, supporting cast, and outrageous banter most, you’ll definitely be into this!
