Very cute, very fun, but also cut deep at some points. There were a few deviations from typical tropes that I thoroughly enjoyed!
adventurous funny lighthearted

This was like if Gideon the ninth had Robin Hood elements instead of the mind bending puzzle box space mystery. So if you loved the romantic dynamic, supporting cast, and outrageous banter most, you’ll definitely be into this!

I don't know if it's cause my head cold but I honestly could not keep track of what was going on in this book. Following a healer named Clem and Mariel, granddaughter of the famed Robin Hood, as they embark on a mission to rescue Mariel's father, Not for the Faint of Heart is a fun little fantasy romp with a dash of romance thrown in. The characters are what saved this story for me. I absolutely adore Clem. And Baxter and Morgan deserve the world. Mariel can be annoyingly stubborn at times but is generally a likeable character and soneone with far too much on her shoulders. I think Croucher also did a really good job making a sequel to Robin Hood and establishing the world and group fantasy setting. The final quarter is what really picked up steam and packed some pretty emotional moments. I definitely feel the pacing could have been better but other than that, I enjoyed this and will read more of Croucher's works.

DID NOT FINISH: 42%

even though i did like gwen and art, i was disappointed with the lesbian relationship's lack of focus/development, so i was really looking forward to reading this. unfortunately, i found this torture to get through.

croucher's writing is very... millennial. in the case of gwen and art, i thought that it was toned down enough that i didn't actually mind, but faint of heart just felt like i was reading one long tumblr post. i found mariel and the history of the merry men to be interesting, but i just couldn't bring myself to keep reading because of how much of a chore it was to try to get through clem's chapters, which is where the millennial humor became far too much. clem is a truly insufferable character and a true product of 2015 tumblr: a super quirky bisexual who thinks that exclusively speaking in overly sarcastic one-liners makes her funny.

i feel like croucher could be a really good writer, the foundation is there! i think if she turned the quirky stuff down to a 3, she could put out something great. until then, i'm not interested in picking up another one of her books.

This is the Lex Croucher I want! It was so fun and irreverent, but with real depth too. Clem was so fun, and Mariel's journey was so good, and I loved the rest of the Merry Men just as much. And the Robin Hood cameo at the end! I want to read it again, and I greatly look forward to Lex Croucher's next YA.
