Single dad baseball players? Sign me up. I’m a sucker for a single dad romance and have honestly been needing more baseball romances in my life. I love this sports world that Annah Conwell has created and I love the found family in this one because it’s a bit unique for a sports romance in my opinion. While Emmett did have a friend on his baseball team, his found family of athletes consisted of guys who played other sports and I thought that was so cool. And of course a sweet little connection for this whole series.
I really loved Hazel and I feel like she is relatable in so many ways. Hazel is a caretaker and always has been and has no desire to be a burden to anyone. So she tries to shoulder everything on her own. I loved how Emmett just laid it all out there and continued to show up and take care of her. When these two got together it was really sweet to watch Emmett let his walls down for her and treat her well and for Hazel to finally have someone she could lean on. I did feel like they got together pretty quickly. Like I felt like they went from barwly acknowledging their feelings to themselves to flirting with each other and basically dating. But their time together was really sweet and I loved Hazel’s dynamic with June.
I’m excited to read more of Annah’s work! Thank you so much for the ARC!

Reader’s Notes:
– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone
– this is told from Emmett & Hazel’s points of view
-there is an age gap of about 10 years between them
-Hazel’s parents are not good parents and frequently foist their responsibility for Hazel’s much younger sister (high school age) on Hazel’s shoulders without notice; it is almost mentioned (in the events of the story) that a parent was found passed out & unresponsive by the sister when she got home (later to be discovered it was alcohol poisoning – parent recovers)
-it is mentioned that Emmett’s ex cheated on him (while married to him & pregnant with their daughter)
-it is mentioned that there is tongue in a kiss (once) & that her hand goes under the collar of his shirt during a kiss (once)
Review:
I love love love this book! Hazel, Emmett, and June stole my heart over the course of their story! I loved how Emmett doted on June and easily softened for her. I loved how he came to be Hazel’s rock to rest on when she needed to also. I loved how fiercely Hazel came to love June and Emmett and how she stood up for them as if they were already her own. I also loved June’s love of both Emmett and Hazel and how badly she wanted to keep both of them at all times (not always understanding what was going on around her).
I can’t wait to find out what exactly is going on with Brock and how he’ll react to love in his story!
Summary:
Emmett needs a new nanny for his daughter since his normal go to – his mother – is going to be out of the country for an extended amount of time taking the ultimate retirement trip with his dad. While Emmett doesn’t begrudge them for wanting to do this, he wonders how he’ll ever find someone he trusts as much with his daughter. Even when his mother picks a woman who seems to have things in hand, Emmett still feels hesitant. But seeing how his daughter lights up for Hazel and that they connect so deeply that June never wants her to leave both settles and unsettles him. Clearly Hazel is perfect for caring for his daughter, but when they eventually have to separate it’ll hurt more than just if it were another babysitter…
Hazel loves being a nanny and getting the deeper connection with the kids she cares for. When her current kids move to another state, Hazel can’t follow but is directed to another family in need of a nanny to see if she’s a good fit. That’s where Hazel finds the adorable June and her father Emmett who Hazel can’t take her eyes off of. Not only would it be an unethical dream to be romanced by her new boss, but an unrealistic one. Because Emmett swore off getting married again after how his first marriage with June’s mother ended and that’s the dream Hazel’s always had for her life…
