definitywnie najbardziej mizoginistyczna książka, jaką kiedykolwiek czytałam. jestem w stanie na wiele rzeczy przymrużyć oko przy tych starszych książkach pisanych przez facetów, ale tutaj nie wytrzymałam i przerwałam czytanie krótko po skończeniu tytułowego opowiadania. które swoją drogą miało ciekawy koncept, ale sposób pisania autora i rozwinięcie tego pomysłu były na tyle średnie, że nie widziałam sensu męczenia się z kolejnymi opowiadaniami.

You might think the misogyny displayed in the main and first story is deliberate and used to criticize society and question “who deserves empathy”... but then you read the following stories and realize the author was just a raging sexist and projected that onto his characters.

Obvious misogyny in many of the stories, making this much less tolerable than the first time I read it. There are still some great stories, but be wary.
it's 2024 now, we have ai that steals people's writing and makes shitty art; in the future, we will have robots that engage in sex-negative, self-abuse, emotional labor, and internalized reverse-racism against postmodern flat-earthers with facts and logic /reference.
edit: i watched an animatic of am's hate monologue and i am writing an unsettling short story myself: i am now a tinge more impressed by the story. still did not like it much but eh, two stars is not so bad.

"Pretty Maggie Moneyeyes" is a gem of a story, but the rest is overwritten. I had heard how thematically horrifying some of these tales were, but what was more horrifying was the long strings of repetitive descriptors and seeming attempts at edginess.
