"How High We Go in the Dark" is so well written. Each chapter makes you think and try to piece together if/how characters are connected. While this novel deals with very heavy topics it also leaves you hopeful for the future of the characters. The beginning of the last chapter threw me for a loop but really wrapped the whole story up well. Beautiful book.

This book is so beautifully written. Each chapter is a snapshot of a story that evokes so much emotion and reflection. It reminds me of the aspects I loved of The Overstory- stories that overlap slightly, but could also stand alone.
I think this book is particularly difficult because it sits so closely to our current reality. Like Black Mirror, sometimes the most terrifying stories are the ones that we can truly imagine happening.
I want to send this to my Environmental literature professors and my philosophy professors so that I can discuss it with them. I also want all my friends and coworkers to read this and discuss it with me too. Honestly, everyone should read this book and then have a worldwide discussion to process.

This is a beautiful story told through vignettes that offer a glimpse into the lives of intricately connected characters whose lives span the centuries. A speculative, sci-fi story that grapples with humanity’s response to a devastating pandemic, the constant threat of climate change, generational trauma, the human ability to adapt and survive, and the threads that tie us together throughout history. This was an emotional, heavy, desolate - yet uplifting, beautiful, and mesmerizing story that has been in the back of my mind since I read it.
