*i was really excited to read this book but i was disappointed. This book was not for me.
*it was frustrating tbh. they acted childish, there was no real reason for them to be enemies. im actually realizing enemies to lovers in contemporary romance is ridiculous.
*the second half was so much better.
*they were so toxic.
*didnt like the fmc, cade was hot, mysterious, dangerous, and a little nuts, but still logical. Definitely like cade more than the fmc.
*overall it was okay, but probably wont read it again.you guys should try it out thou if yoh like enemies to lovers trope.
*very spicy

Enjoyed it! Refreshing depiction of the mafia
I am pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this book. I admit that I did not go into it with high expectations. I was just looking for an indulging story to immerse myself in. However, the more I read, the more I enjoyed the book. Though it contains the classic enemies to lovers trope, I did not find it to be very shallow. In fact, I thought there was quite a bit of depth to it. Yes, it seemed like most of the relationship between the characters was forged through physical and intimate experiences, but there was certainly a bit of emotion behind it all. The characters were well developed with personal demons they were trying to overcome and understand, not just about themselves, but also about one another. I also like the way that the mafia was portrayed in this book. Rather than having the mob swarm the streets, machine guns blazing, they were involved in society in a way that is more realistic, in my opinion. Sometimes it seems like people want to hang onto the ‘glory days’ of the mafia, where everything is guns, drugs, and overly blatant illegal, illicit and evil activity. However, nowadays, the mafia keeps a low profile. I’ve heard you wouldn’t even be able to recognize a member of the mafia if you didn’t know what to look for. From what I have gathered, the mob is likelier to quietly involve themselves in professional business areas where they can conduct business legally, or at least under the guise of legality. Today’s mobster would very much be like similar to Cade: smart, calculated, out of the public eye, and probably occupying some CEO position on Wall Street. I really appreciated and admired this quality.

A good book to read at the christmas family dinner (Of course as an ebook)

Rip my heart out and tear it to shreds why don’t you. This book was so much. Heartbreaking, sexy, and so so gripping. I ate this shit up.
Cade is a psycho 100% but I’m obsessed with him. The way he embraced Izzy and saw her for who she was and loved that about her was everything to me. He wanted the good the bad and the ugly and I’m tearing up just thinking about it. He was there for her and just everything he needed to be (even tho he got a lil stupid toward the end — but he was self aware enough to grovel — king — so we’ll let it slide). And watching Izzy realize that she was more than her addiction and she was so strong and capable and believing in herself was just everything.
I 100% sobbed my eyes out when her kidnappers drugged her though. It was so heartbreaking, but she came out so strong and i just love her so much.
This book just got me in all the feels. Still not over it. (It’s been 5 minutes since I finished.)
These two were also psycho as hell with each other. In a way that worked but still the chaos (haha get it) was so real in this book lmao.
AND OF COURSE I CANT FORGET THE SPICE

Izzy gave me a scatterbrained Garcia (Criminal Minds) feel which I LOVED, and Cade is all hacker genius, dark and violent. Kinda hate the typical 3rd act breakup tho, it was so increadibly unnecessary.
I also read this after Declan's book and in that I really dialiked Izzy, and I got curious about her, and kinda like the not really likeable heroine, it makes for an interesting character!

This book ate me up inside and out, it consumed most of my thoughts over the 48 hours it took me to read. In the wise words of Jake Peralta, “NO SPOILIES!”
The plot - enemies to lovers, mafia romance, dual POV, HEA, 4/5 rated smut, triggers of addiction, abuse, assault. They all feature in this book so check the comprehensive triggers on Shain’s website before reading. This plot was AMAZING. Angst, hurt/comfort, action, the enemies to lovers? All chef’s kiss and ate me up inside and out. GOD I loved it. Just wished the ending wasn’t so rushed and the epilogue had… more? I don’t know how to describe it. Just, more.
The MC - who couldn’t love Izzy? Oh she has my heart through and through. I loved with her, hated with her, laughed and cried with her (begged to be her in certain scenes). She wound her way into my heart and her character development by the end was my favourite. However, I did hate her brothers. Not a fan of the overbearing big brother type storyline.
The male counterpart - Cade…. If I could input a dreamy sigh here, I would. He’s fucked up through and through, but god if I didn’t beg to be in Izzy’s place the whole time. As far as book boyfriends go, he’s closer to Zade from the Haunting Adeline than he is to Joshua from the Hating Game, for comparison’s sake.

There is a cat. That is the only reason I stayed because I was not invested. At all. Probably should have read the others first so I had context, because I was lost in the half-info storytelling that was obviously from previous stories in the series. That is entirely on me. That said, I love a man with confident hand necklacing abilities, and I am struggling to see any world where he would get allow anyone to pierce his dick.
