Like any road trip, this book is a slow burn. Over time, the book grew on me until I finished the last quarter within two days. For the first of Gaiman's works, I was pleasantly surprised! The concept is out there, but is grounded by the fact that it actually takes place in America. Real-life locations you can go and see here in the real world. That attention to detail is something that's commonly missed nowadays, and something that I appreciate.

This is a book that I'll revisit one day, because with my attention-span, it's hard to remember the whole, cohesive plot: just little fragments of scenes I enjoyed and ending in particular stick in my mind. Don't be like me and read it on and off, trust me.
You'll want to ride this story out, start to finish.

This is the kind of book that I really should have liked. I wanted to like it. But somehow it wasn't meant to be. In the end I was just glad when I was finally done with it. I'm confused about myself.

I finished and I have no idea what to say about this book. It's been reviewed thousands of times. It was amazing, Gaiman is genius world twister. But..... I had some issues with the characters, they were fantastically written that wasn't it. It was just them, I wouldn't want to hang out with most of them. Listening to an audiobook brings me into their world and I just wanted to kick them all out to deal with their BS outside my zone. Shadow was just such a doormat, everyone stepped on that dude. Wednesday, ARGUH ! Riddle, and avoid, riddle and avoid....Does this guy ever die off ? Yeh, that was my main thought. The different gods were interesting but didn't visit often enough. The one character I'd like to sit on the beach with was Laura, the crazy dead chick, go figure.
I'm glad i finally listened to it but i'll not do it again.

Contemporary mythology at its finest! Shrewdly executed, American Gods is one novel that just gets curiouser and curiouser as the layers slowly peel away.

An interesting theoretical concept that the Gods of all nations walk among mortals in the melting pot of America.
