So hard to stomach some of the language- it felt like I was climbing mountains to the next page and the next.

This book was far from creepy/scary. I found it to be really boring.

Has its occasional scary or profound moments but those are vastly outweighed but strange misogyny and real estate logistics. Van Helsing is funny though

I highly recommend that if you want to read Dracula for the first time, you subscribe to Dracula Daily - a great Substack/email subscription that sends out each chapter in 'real time'. The book is written in diary form and every day that something happens in the book, you get that chapter emailed to you. Reading like this really added to the experience for me and made it easier to get through some of the dense chapters. It was definitely enjoyable to read the 'original' tale of Dracula and recognise where many of the tropes come from. It was fun to groan at Jonathan at the beginning and root for him towards the end. Clearly a stone cold classic.

the book is great, but the count barely appears in skin, and the male characters literally worship the female characters a bit to excessively for my liking
