Sadly, this was a disappointing conclusion to a series that left many prominent questions unanswered.

This book was a big improvement from Dark Waters. It was MUCH scarier - there were some parts that truly made me feel spooked. But then it just ended. I felt like the end was so rushed again - and again it was because I didn’t realize that the last 50 pages in the book were excerpts from the first 3. I wish we had gotten a bit more explanation of who the Smiling Man really is. I stand by my comment in my review for Dark Waters, I think the author backed herself into a corner by deciding to write four books when she really only had material for two.

That being said, I will miss this series.

This book started strong and then just crashed. I’m 30 and the clowns scared the crap out of me, but then everything is done in 20 pages and we get no explanation. She literally was like, “nah I don’t want to write anymore” and just ended the book??? Very, very disappointed. 2.5 stars and I will not be rounding up due to too many loose ends and unresolved series/plot holes.
