Delightful
I very much enjoyed reading this book. Also at first I could tell it was her first book, the plot and the story telling one me over completely.

decent! I think you can see how far Stiefvater has come in a few years. this one is fairly run-of-the-mill, and nothing I would overwhelmingly recommend, but it is a good story if you want a fairy tale. I'm so excited at how much her writing has improved over the years because she tells stories that I want to read.
I loved this one! Deirdre is so real, even with all the otherworldly things happening to and around her. Couldn't wait to get home at night and read!
Stiefvater is becoming one of my favorite authors. I really enjoyed this story, and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Definitely written for a younger audience. Simplistic but a fun story.
This book was hard to get into at first (a bit slow moving) but then it started to amp up. I still have a lot of questions, but hopefully they will be answered in Ballad.

three stars for the stupid ending
This is pretty good. I did not like Dee much though. She just rubbed me the wrong way. She wasn't horrible, or even that bad but she wasn't likable. There was a slightly stilted feel to her and her family came off as blurry. There were some really great characters, such as James and Luke were great. Una wasn't bad either. Even the side character, Sarah, was more accessible than Dee. I will most likely read the next book and if there is a third I'll read that as well. I really like Stiefvater's writing and her stories hold tons of geek moments. This book was not as amazing-brilliant as the Scorpio Races though.
After putting down this book, the first thing I thought was: Man, that was incredible. The second thing I thought was: WHY MUST THE SEQUEL COME OUT NEXT YEAR AND NOT RIGHT NOW? And yes, I thought this in all capital letters. But Lament itself is an incredible book. The writing is excellent ( though I saw a few things I'd change and, like, two typos overall, but that's me being way too critical ). The characters are amazing - I was so used to reading about heroines who play dumb or have no idea about this-or-that going on, and I was surprised, then overjoyed, to find that Deirdre was smart and clever and offered a refreshing point of view. God, I don't even know what to point out as outstanding, because every page brought on something great. I honestly couldn't put it down - except once last night because it was midnight and I was forced to go to bed. There's romance and magic and humor and action. This is one book I highly recommend.
