Beneath the Burn, was a scorching hot, heart-wrenching, beautiful love story! There is nothing better than a story of a love trying to overcome the fires that threaten to consume it. A love out of control, passionate, blazing, vulnerable, beautiful, tragic, healing, redemptive, and burning all at the same time. I LOVED THIS BOOK!
Charlee--
Charlee Grosky is a tattoo artist who is in hiding, and has been for years trying to escape the hands of Roy Oxford the sadistic, obsessed tormentor whose kept her prisoner, before she finally managed to escape. Even though she's technically free, she still finds herself feeling trapped, unable to fully live her life for he could be waiting in the wings ready to destroy everything that she holds dear. Then she meets Jay and her life is forever changed.

Jay is the lead singer of the band The Burn. Jay’s childhood has scarred him inside and out. He self medicates himself with drugs and women to try and forget his past. After a show, he decides to try something new instead...to get a tattoo to cover his scars. He just needs to forget. Will covering his back with a sheet of black truly erase his scars? Or will he never be able to escape them? Will he ever truly escape what's beneath the burns?
They meet by chance. The timing is wrong.
Their first encounter is one that lasts only an hour but it is one that forever changes both of their lives.
But then something terrible happens and when Jay comes back to find Charlee he hears the devastating news that she's dead. Believing her dead he leaves. Three years later, they meet again. But life has taken its toll on both of them. They are forever changed by life's cruel ways.
One of the few things that hasn't changed is their connection. In fact, their one encounter is what helped them through some of the toughest parts of the past few years of their lives and both of them are willing to fight the terrible circumstances that threaten to consume them both in order to be together.
What follows in an emotional, heart-wrenching, raw, nerve-wrecking, passionate journey of two people fighting to stay together and trying to escape the hands of Charlee's captor Roy, who wants her back and is willing to do anything to break them apart. On top of all that, they also struggle with their relationship and the pressures that come of Jay's fame, not too mention his aversion to being touched. They have quite the journey ahead of them.
Jay is a tortured hero. He does make some mistakes and he isn't perfect but he does fight very hard to become the man he thinks Charlee deserves. I really really loved Jay! He is one my of favorite book heroes!
Charlee was an amazing heroine! I really admired her strength and determination even if it included consequences to herself. She'd already been through so much and still she never gave up and managed to find a way to cope with all the pain she had to go through. As for Roy I seriously HATED Roy for the things he did to her and to others. I mean I HATED HIM. He was sadistic and cruel, and maybe this makes me sick as well, but I still found myself feeling a smidgen of pity for him. What happened to him that lead him to do such terrible things? We get some insight into his father being an abuser as well, but I would have loved to find out more about him... or maybe it just his disturbing infatuation for Charlee that descended him into madness...
Beneath the Burn was a highly emotional ride that I will not easily forget. I cried so many times throughout and laughed almost as much. (Ex: I want a crumpet, haha) Due to some explicit content, including violence and non-consensual sex, this book might not be for everyone, but all I can say is that I absolutely adored it! I also loved Noah and Nathan and cried for some of their tragic scenes. Poor tragic Noah. I loved him even though I never had a chance to get to know him. This is easily going on my favorites list. While some might have believed it to be too long, I thought it was perfect and I would love a sequel even though this is only going to be a standalone. *Sigh*

Jay and Charlee are two messed up folk who are trying to love the faults in each other. They meet when he bribes her in putting a tattoo on him. Little did he know thats not all he got:
“Whatever your reason for wanting them covered, you should ask yourself, really think about it.” She shifted behind him, leaned over his shoulder, and spoke low in his ear. “Would the veil work?” Thought provoking him from the beginning with her unconventional reaction to his scars
What’s your name?” Her smile faltered then resurrected into a blinding vision. “Charlee. With two e’s.” Charlee. His future had a name. Christ, she had navigated his freakishness with the patience and experience of an old soul. Perhaps she was the missing element of his soul.
Charlee has a dark past of her own on the run from Roy her captor who killed her love Noah. Roy her captor who won her from her father in a trade to pay off his debts has found her and forces her back into his BDSM lifetysle as a slave: "She got off on brutality and not on tenderness? She was damaged. So fucking broken."
This story is deep man like I literally felt her pain in my bones !!! The author is graphic as f**k..
She knew, in that moment, the absence of fear was not synonymous with courage. She wasn’t brave. She was numb
She gets captured again and gets broken out by Nathan her ex-lovers brother who protects her, Nathan risked everything to save her...guilt from Noah's passing........ Still she thinks of Jay and seeks him out.a run in with Jay: "You showed me beauty in survival. I’ll show you strength in healing.”
They begin their crazy roller coaster relationship with him unable to bear someones touch and her unable to orgasm unless being abused.

-When you have to hide to live, you’re ready for anything.”
-“I don’t just want to be where you need me.” His tone was deep, sharp. “I want to be what you need.”
-“I want you to touch me inside and out."
-"Her intent seemed to be shoving, scolding, and seducing him toward happiness, no matter how fucked up he was. A token of her effort was permanently outlined on his back."
They continued on sharing secrets and then of course the shit had to hit the fan and Roy got to them in a sick plot that ended with someones elses mouth on his cock !!@
Then theres her kidnapping while on tour and then ultimately her "death" and pain as Roy shoots himself in grief. I don't really think the ending was practical? Making Jay and Nathan inherit his fortune?

One of the best books of 2013!
This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time!
The story has extremely dark/hardcore BDSM and may not be for everyone. But the rest of the story is angst-ridden and so inspiring.
This is definitely one of my favourites for this year!

This book was ok but I wanted to see more of Charlee and Jay doing things together and interacting with others.
The first 18% of the book show Charlee’s enslavement graphically and I thought that that part of the book could have been a bit shorter.
The plot was good and I liked how it showed how Charlee and Jay dealt with their traumas but I wanted to see more scenes where they interact with the other band members and another chapter at the end.
This book was good and even though I don’t really like books about musicians, I didn’t mind it too much in this book.
