Re-read again and finished 21 December 2014. This book has one theme - "Come unto Christ."

This is not the first time I've read this book, nor will it be the last, but this is the quickest I've read it thus far. I really got an overall view of the layout and events and better understood who was speaking when. Overall, I walk away this time with a comprehensive understanding of the history of this people.

Each time I read this book, I know firmly that it could not have been written/designed/imagined by Joseph Smith. Having written books myself, and studied Joseph Smith, his education, his character, and the people around him, I know that there is no explanation for the existence of this book other than what was claimed. This is a true record of the ancient people of the Americas. They knew of Jesus Christ and were visited by him after his crucifixion. They recorded their history, the words of their prophets, and matters of the gospel upon metal plates and Joseph Smith translated by the power of God at His direction.

Those who saw the golden plates left the church, but never denied seeing the plates, though they had reason to (disliking/disagreeing with Joseph Smith and such). It would have been an easy way to discredit everything Joseph Smith claimed, but they never did.

The case for the Book of Mormon has only grown stronger. Fraudulent things become more obviously false the more time goes on. Instead, anachronisms have shrunk with new developments in archeology, and we have still only done less than 1% of archeological work in the Americas.

All these things and more are true, but they are not how I know this book is the Word of God. I know Christ is my Savior. He died for me. I have had a lifetime of experiences with this gospel, and nothing has brought me greater joy. I am so grateful to know my Heavenly Father and his love for his children.

I wish everyone could read this book, along with the Bible and come to know the joys I have. There is nothing anywhere else quite like knowing I am a beloved child of a God who loves me. I have found solace, comfort, and hope through depressive episodes, trials, and traumas. There is always someone there to help me, and He has always been there. Words cannot convey how I know these things. But I know them more than I know anything else.

Nothing I can say can convince anyone. You have to read this for yourself and ask God yourself what things are true. See what happens.

Amen [it is true]

I've read this book dozens of times. It's full of plagiarism and contradictions.

I did it. I finally finished The Book of Mormon. Say what ye will about the historical authenticity, but ye cannot deny the impact this tome has had on the world since 1823. I admit, it can get tiresome to read with every other verse starting with, "And it came to pass..." but overall The Book of Mormon is brimming with reminders to be kind, strong, and hopeful. Even if the reader is not a person of faith, its verses still have value. For example, "When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God" Mosiah 2:17. If you want to think of God as charity, as kindness, as selflessness, or humanitarianism, it still works. Or look at Alma 34:38: "Live in thanksgiving daily, for the many mercies and blessings which he doth bestow upon you." Gratitude and honor are qualities that can be appreciated throughout any walk of life. I've had my ups and downs with this text, but overall I appreciate it for what it is: Joseph Smith's all-American magnum opus.

I have read The Book of Mormon dozens and dozens of times but I think I will start keeping track on here each time I finish it.

Well, I forgot I said that back in 2016! I will have to try to do that from now on. This latest complete reading may have been the fastest I have ever read the Book of Mormon. Pres Nelson asked us on Oct 6th to read it before the end of the year. He also asked us to mark all verses that refer to Jesus Christ. This was what made this reading so special. I truly grew in my relationship to the Savior through this reading. I am so grateful that he asked us to do that. I love the Savior with all my heart and am filled with gratitude for His matchless gift of His Atonement that gives me hope and peace.

It was so different to take the entire year to read the Book of Mormon. I usually read it at least twice a year. It definitely was a good experience to read it while the entire Church was studying the same chapters at the same time.
