The way I am speeding through this series and avoiding my responsibilities to do it!! It is just above and beyond. Definitely dragging the last two out bc I’m scared for it to end, which means no more Kate

Buddy read with the lovely Ilona Andrews Addicts.
Kate Daniels how I love you so. You can call me sweet cheeks any day of the week.
Seriously, though - I went into this book feeling a bit nervous given some of the big changes from the last book. Of course the Andrews managed to make the transition wonderfully! As usual this book is full of Kate being awesome, Curran being awesome, and all their friends unable to live without them.

This is the kind of book that makes me want to sit down and re-read the series all over again.
The problems that Kate & Curran have this time don't seem to be connected to what they've done or who they are this time. But the Andrews weave in a lot of back story and explain a lot of the 'why' in events of previous books.
I have to admit--I think there is a lot more going on to and with Roland than a need to kill Kate just because his children always turn on him. I was fortunate to be in the audiobook version when he was telling his tale at Applebee's and I am no longer getting a 'supreme, evil being' vibe. Well, I am, but that's no longer ALL I think is going on with him. I see some twisty-twists happening over the next couple of books. Roland may surprise us.
The Andrews team is currently putting out some of the best fantasy that I've read and I refuse to qualify it by naming it urban fantasy. It's just very, very, good fantasy. And if you haven't tried the audiobook versions of this series, do yourself a favor. Rene Raudman is superb.

I have no idea why it took me so long to finally read this book. Interesting take on ghouls. Saiman was a big disappointment. I hope she makes him regret what he said. The medical issue she had was worrying and I wonder if there will be future issues from it. Loved this book!
5-22-15: I just read the excerpt on http://www.ilona-andrews.com/magic-shifts-excerpt/. I wish I could read the rest now! I love this series, and it looks like this one is going to be a nice change from Curran being hands-tied by politics. Technically they are still dealing with politics, especially with the case Kate took in chapter 2. But their personal lives are their own.
