the way i predicted 90% of the stuff that happened in this book…
i liked this more than the love hypothesis because bee is honestly a better main character and is way cooler, but there’s just something about ali hazelwood’s female protagonists. they’re the exact same and are always so dense?? like i genuinely don’t understand how bee was so blind to levi’s feeling omg i don’t even want to talk about it. im also just not a huge fan of the whole ‘he loves her but she thinks he hates her’ trope but i will read anything ali hazelwood publishes so i torture myself a little and i’m fine with that

Such a disappointing read and by far Hazlewood’s weakest work in my opinion. Levi’s behaviour for the first half of the book as an ADULT man was so bizarre to me. The writing and characters were sooo cheesy. Confused by the sudden mystery twist at the end? Felt so out of place. I think this book has made be realise that Hazlewood has grown a lot as an author, as I adore her newer books and she’s still an auto buy author for me. Just so glad I didn’t read this and the love hypothesis first otherwise I wouldn’t have given her another chance!

I can't say it was fully good nor can I say it was fully bad.
Was I disappointed? No! not it in the least. I would say it was very predictable (even the plot twist was). Not only did the title of the chapters, but anyone with a minimum of imagination or who has already read a contemporary romance (or who could read even) would have known how everything would have gone.
Despite that, I didn't the way the author painted Gen Z as systematically out of line based on only 2 characters and their use of social media (TikTok). I'm probably seeing too much through it but it felt like a millennial's slander to gen z.
But overall I would see why people enjoyed it and would recommend it (even though I'm not sure who I could recommend it to but I'm sure BookTok would do its best work to promote the book).
