Okay, maybe I am truly a millennial at my core, but as a 14 year old gen z girl, I LOVED bee.
I’ve been wanting to read this book ever since I first saw it at the library (yes I can’t afford books and what about it) but the one thing that stopped was her name. YES. I saw that her name was Bee Königswasser and almost gagged. IM SORRY. I feel like the name Königswasser is a perfectly normal last name. And the name bee is a… name. But together? Everytime her full name was written I wanted to puke and I now realise that that’s a me problem. Anyway 2 days ago I went through puberty (aka grew balls) and picked up the book. I felt shame while checking out but since I’m a man now I brought it home with me. Ok onto the actual review
The romance was ok I guess

I love the concept of “I was always in love with you” in certain situations. This was one of them. I think I didn’t hate the fact that they weren’t actual enemies because i wasn’t expecting them to be. I mean cmon it’s Ali hazelwood we’re talking about
Off topic but when I finished my first Ali Hazelwood book I decided to search her up and she looked exactly how I thought she would if you know what I mean
Anyways. It was cute and nicely executed but what really made this book great was the fmc.
the fainting? LOVE. the tattoos? LOVE. the coloured hair? LOVE. the piercings? LOVE. the european-ness? LOVE (because I am biased). the secret online identity? LOVE. the overall way she functions? LOVE.
now before you say anything I am aware that all of ali hazelwoods fmc are like smart but so stupid at the same time. and yes there may have been times when I was screaming through the book at her to make better decisions or for them to just talk. but her good qualities balance her bad qualities out. BUUUUT I did love how bee actually was smart instead of her whole personality being that she’s a broke student (yes olive I’m looking at you.
also but the book could’ve been a few pages shorter if they just communicated….!

and why is it that in every single ali book she overuses the word broody and/or huge/large/big/tall

I’ve read all of Ali’s work and I love her writing style - the causal nature, all of it. But something was off with this one, don’t get me wrong I liked it a lot. I enjoyed the characters, but it was missing something.
Maybe it was the pacing, or the timing of the events. It felt rushed but also not rushed.
It was basically the same formula of Love Hypothesis, something happens that’s bad and the guy saves her, in this case legitimately saves her life.
Regardless Ali is a stellar romance writer, and I’m excited to read her next projects ❤️

No notes - legitimately, no notes. Everything just flowed in this book, making it so hard to put down. from the Marie Curie references, to the suspence twist, to the spicy sex scenes, and questionable cat. I want more of Levi and Bee
I listened to this one on audiobook and liked it quite a bit. At times I was a little bored with the plot as it relied too heavily on the miscommunication trope. Near the end it came clear that the entire plot was built around creating this one (admittedly, very cool) scene that worked as the breaking-point in the miscommunication. As usual with Ali Hazelwood books, the characters are very well written and interesting, and the book is solid overall. I just got a little bored.

3.9 for me!!! Really liked this, levi is so goddamn sweet. I preferred this to the first one but felt like the end was rushed. Side note— I'd be happy to never hear about Marie Curie again
