Incredibly fun
It’s a great ride if you have a good stomach for it! At least the version that Mr. B. wrote for me. ;-)

I was not impressed by this novel. I found the conversations between the demon and the reader to be annoying. The demon just kept repeating the same thing again and again to the reader. The first half of the novel was interesting, however, the second half of the novel and the quest for the machine was not. I found myself skimming through the pages hoping to finish quickly. The novel was not scary.

Okay, a book telling me to burn it right off the bat and continuing to argue with me for the first three pages definitely caught my attention. This is the first book I have read by this author and while I will admit there were parts that were a little harder to get through than others, once I was hooked, it was hard to get out. Reading through the story of this demon and all his hardships and shi t he has done and whatnot captivating. I definitely found myself questioning why I was so sympathetic to him and then him returning to beg between the stories just added so much more. All of that only to then make me more sympathetic and then have my jaw on the floor at the end and then sad again. No I don’t think this book is for everyone, but I love me a good book that plays with my brain and makes me feel things and that’s exactly what this book did so i definitely have to give it the credit it deserves.

I have liked Clive Barker for a long time now and have never been disappointed by one of his books. Mister B. Gone continues this trend in refreshing fashion. Never before have I read a book where the book itself is the main character. The book is the autobiography of a down-on-his-luck demon (the titular beast trapped within the very pages you turn) who wants only release from his paper prison from the reader. The ultimate question being, "Will you grant him his wish?" The book is so well written that I was temped many times to stop reading and do just that. Mister B. Gone is a quick read and definitely worth it. While it doesn't offer the overarching mythos of some of his earlier works, it is more of an experience than a book, and utterly rewarding.
