I won a giveaway copy of Battle Royal in 2021, and I loved it. Loved it! Couldn't wait for the sequel. And it was just as good as I was hoping. It had several of my favorite tropes - fake dating/real feels and grumpy vs sunshine - and it worked them to perfection.

Like Battle Royal and a lot of other romance novels, there is a lot of serious backstory - what happened to Padraig and who Pet's father is - within the story to round out the sweetness.

Thank you to Avon and NetGalley for the eARC.

Edit: 2024-09-24: I reread Codename Charming, and found it was just as amazing as it was then. Still laugh out loud funny in places, and intensely touching in other (like when Pet learns about her father).

I'm a big fan of Lucy Parker's books and especially liked the sweet MCs in this slow-burn romance. However, I was not as fond of the narrator, Anne-Marie Piazza. Her portrayal of Mattias was terrible! I suspect she was going for the strong-silent-growly type but what she ended up with was a breathy low-talker who practically whispers. I could hardly understand him and frequently had to replay scenes to listen and 2nd or 3rd time.

The only thing that kept this book from being a five star, is how long it took the couple to get together. Other than that, this book is absolutely adorable and perfect
