I cannot believe that I actually enjoyed all of the endless - and I mean endless - dialogue about this or that ... Wikipedia mentioned that the book is considered to be one of Dostoevsky's more personal: Myshkin's epilepsy, the talk of Christ and Christian love, capital punishment. Of course, the plot is almost beside the point as it meanders here and there ...

When reading a Dostoevsky novel, I feel as if I am caught up in a fevered conversation about everything - how people feel about themselves and each other, about class and religion, about morality and goodness, about the church and about the state. As the characters are well-drawn, the fevered conversations have depth and complexity.

I definitely appreciated this more from a philosophical perspective. Although, in my opinion, the plot wasn’t the strongest, the writing itself from Dostoyevsky is timeless, i honestly appreciated more of the writing from the narrator himself in most cases and felt it was enlightening.

I would've rated this higher if the entire book was like the first part (which is something I will reread for sure). The characters, the story, it's a complete rollercoaster! So compelling, it immediately pulls you in. The middle is still okay, but the last part kinda drags on and becomes repetitive. That said, the conversations are fun, the characters are insane, that I very much liked! Did not expect that I would like a 19th century Russian writer's humour so much.

I sometimes had an issue fully following the story. There was a lot of hinting happening and I sometimes could not tell if it was me who missed it or the main character (which means as a reader you can't know either). On top of that I had to Google some words, which got me out of reading flow and might've distracted me from fully understanding the sentences/paragraphs. The translation I read sometimes chose difficult words to represent their Russian counterparts. However, I feel more common words would've conveyed the same thing (maybe it's the age of the translation, idk).
