I loved the intersection of languages and cultures throughout this book. The characters felt both ancient and modern. Their interactions were hilarious and gut wrenching. You really rooted for them from the moment the story began. There were moments where I was so tense that I had to put the book down and take a break because I couldn’t bear the thought of anything bad happening.

The pacing felt super off to me. The climax hit dead center of the book and the rest felt super anticlimactic because of that. Luc and Oberon, and really just Oberon, felt like wasted potential for depth. I really like Tony and Lira. I felt there was a lot of missed potential with Will, too. It's like the book couldn't commit to being a romance, or an adventure, or a mystery. Or a family drama, so it didn't fully capture any of them. It was fine, but I don't think I'd read it again.
This book overall has great potential. I, personally, didn't find the world-building to be sufficient or fully explained. However, the romance and general plot were engaging and interesting. I would recommend this to someone only if it fits their specific niche of what they were looking for.

i was so excited for this :( the chinese medicine magic seemed so cool to me and i so badly wish it was executed better. the worldbuilding is a huge problem because literally nothing is explained enough so it just makes you confused about so much. the other issue is the extremely disorganised and messy pacing. pretty much all over the place and keeps switching up. elle was a good character on her own, but i found myself not caring about luc. the romance was ... meh? i disliked the sex scenes but i never expect to like them so that's fine i suppose. overall, really good theme but lacking in execution.

This was (very) adult Artemis Fowl, and no I will not explain. Fun fantasy romance with humor that hits most of the time. I'm glad I didn't DNF.

I absolutely adored this. I was rec this by my friend Alicia, and honestly it was amazing. Highly recommend. I fucking adore it. The physical and the audio are both perfect. I read both formats because I was desperate to keep listening and reading whenever possible.
