Allein schon die Haptik dieses Comics ist großartig: meine Ausgabe hat ein gummiertes Cover und matte Seiten.
Die Zeichnungen sind unglaublich schön. Bei einigen hätte ich nichts gegen ein Poster für mein Zimmer.
Ich würde die Geschichte als ruhig bezeichnen, obwohl es eigentlich um eine Superheldin im DC-Universum geht. Ich hatte darüber aber keine Vorkenntnisse und konnte diese Miniserie trotzdem super verfolgen. Die Geschichte an sich hat mir offenbar auch sehr gut gefallen!

I really liked the art in this book but I found the story hard to follow and kind of slow and boring. I didn't really dislike it but I didn't like it either. The art however, is mind blowing

It didn't actually take me four months to read this. I kept getting it back from the library and not reading it before it was due back. Kind of a "saving the best for last" reading situation, but finally put it in the rotation and just read the beautiful thing. (I do this a lot.)

I have always been drawn to superheroes and villains like Poison Ivy and Swamp Thing, so Black Orchid really excited me (even more so when I realised Neil Gaiman wrote it!). I wasn't disappointed, the whole thing was beautiful.

This type of cerebral storytelling is something Gaiman and McKean do so incredibly well. Haunting, beautiful, and moving--I loved seeing the DC Universe from this dream-like vision through McKean's incredible artwork.
I did want more, but ultimately that's also not what this story is about--it's not about this world, but it's about her, her birth and rebirth.

A word of warning: this was too graphic for my tastes, but it covers important topics and I can see why the authors included violence to make a point about the genre.
It was heartbreaking to see the main characters suffer violence and domestic abuse, but the (real-feeling) representation of these topics in a DC comic spreads awareness and shows a woman claiming her power and voice for the world to see.
If you have a stronger stomach than I do, I would highly recommend that you read this series if interested in crimes during the 80s and solving ecological problems (helping to replenish natural resources).
