Very cute! I had forgotten some of the plot points in this one, so it was a nice reunion for me. I like the addition of another pet, and how Ribsy reacts to it. Very Fun!

Somehow I seem to have missed the Henry books in my youth. This was my first, a readaloud. While it was enjoyable as all of Beverly Cleary's books are, it didn't feel quite as unique as the Ramona books, Henry being a more ordinary, sort of slightly dull kid. I'd still happily read another of them.

This installment of the Henry Huggins series does not disappoint! As soon as I read the final sentence and closed the book, Isabelle shouted, "Five stars!"

In this book, Henry shows compassion, initiative, drive, and determination. He sees four adorable kittens and goes to great lengths to keep them from being sent to the pound. He wants a paper route, and by golly, he will convince Mr. Capper that he is responsible enough to have one! His school has a paper drive, and - inspired by an off-hand suggestion from a friend - he comes up with an idea to collect the most paper. Henry quickly becomes overwhelmed with the success of his idea, but he follows through and keeps his word.

I LOVE that Henry typed up his advertisements on a typewriter and used carbon paper! It was really fun talking to Isabelle about how Henry had to do things the old-fashioned way because home computers, printers, and photocopiers weren't invented yet. It was interesting, too, to see how the primary definition of a word can change over a few decades. To Henry, a "premium" is something that comes free with the purchase of something else, while I generally associate the noun "premium" with the cost of insurance.

Sweet story of how determined Henry is to land his own paper route. I also liked that Henry got a kitten and Ribsy befriends little Nosy. <3

Another cute book from Beverly Cleary, and another children's book off my shelf and ready to be donated. Ramona and Beezus are in this one, and again I would be so tempted to slap the bratty Ramona across the room. Henry is cute with the kittens and the paper project - perhaps he does actually have a job in advertising waiting for him in the future. I doubt kids are this determined in real life, although there may actually be those motivated go-getters out there. The story takes a little while to grow interesting, but once he actually tries doing the paper and gets the animals, kids should enjoy the story further. Unfortunately there's not much humor.

Another great one from Cleary. Henry desperately wants a paper route but has to wait until her turns 11. He works hard to prove he is responsible and along the way matches wits with Ramona and makes a new neighborhood friend. Liked that all the kids were in awe of the new boy who is absorbed in building his robot and Henry’s recognition of different interests and abilities.

It's fun to see Henry grow up some. He is now 11 and can have a paper route. I appreciate the focus on hard work and responsibility. Henry is a good role model and "friend" for my kids to have. This story had a fuzzy-feeling-inducing ending, as Henry becomes friends with the new kid and a confusing situation is resolved. I like those types of revelations and enjoy discussing them with the kids. Kai can't wait to move on to the next book. He got angry that we couldn't start it tonight after finishing this one.
