This series, and Alexia in particular, continues to delight.
I'm cutting through this series like warm butter and enjoying every minute of it.
I think this book is my favorite in the series so far. While I enjoyed the first two books, they weren't my favorite Gail Carriger has written. This book steps up the drama and intrigue. After the ending of the previous book, chaos breaks out both at home and abroad, in ways that I definitely couldn't have predicted. This chaos combined with the ridiculousness of the characters trying to be "proper" no matter the situation and the quest to determine what the infant inconvenience might be make this a fun, funny, and fast-paced read.
After sadly being very disappointed with the previous installment in this series, I was convinced by a friend to give 'Blameless' a chance - and boy, I am glad that I did. This book had everything 'Soulless' had and then some, and I was back in love with all the characters and Carrigers charming voice.
After that huge cliffhanger of the last book, we were immediately thrown into the scandalous, shocking and funny aftermath. There were some sad parts too, but that didn't take away from the overall giddy tone of the entire book - we still had lots and lots of hideous hats, charming banter, murderous ladybugs and yummy pesto. Unfortunately for Alexia though, not nearly enough tea.
There was also not as much romance or steaminess in this book as in the first, and although I would have liked some more, I still felt that the lack of it didn't ruin anything - the couple in question had gone through some hardships recently after all.
I will definitely pick up the sequel in the future, partly because of the awesome narration and partly because we were once again left with quite a big cliffhanger. I feel a strong need to discover what happens to Alexia, Conall, and the rest of the loveable characters plus also just really want to read Carrigers LGBTQ+ novellas after finishing this series. Her books are just such perfect and easy comfort reads.
