Teen me would have loved this book so much! It feels like a very realistic story of a girl opening her eyes to the sexism and misogyny in her school and refusing to accept it or stay silent. I really appreciate that Mathieu addressed white privilege, and that so many characters learn and grow over the course of the book.

I read this book in a total of 3 hours. My high school was very similar to Vivian’s. Football players and cheerleaders even had their own administrator. I have witnessed firsthand the special treatment of athletes, and while my high school never had a feminist movement like Moxie, I wish it did. Moxie was beautiful and heartbreaking, yet it kept me chuckling the entire time.

I will say that I was apprehensive about the romance in this book, because going in I almost felt like something would be taken away from the story. After finishing the book, I feel the relationship was necessary due to the contrast of perspectives.

Fuck. Yes.

A realistic and powerful depiction of a teenage girl's ascent into feminism -- and truly badass activism. Mathieu does an incredible job depicting the myriad ways we're societally conditioned to accept the status quo, with loads of empathy for all the girls and women (and even guys) at different stages of this journey. Moxie is also funny, diverse, and stylish -- the feminist zines the protagonist is inspired to make are true works of art, and I wish they were real and I owned them.

I want girls everywhere to read this book and be inspired. I want to be a Moxie Girl. It's time to fight back.

I FREAKIN LOVED THIS BOOK!!! I love women supporting and fighting for other women and it made me so happy to read a book centered on that. The fact that there was no “”cat fighting”” made me so happy too :’) The courage of all the girls was so beautiful and it made me tear up because damn it all, women are amazing!! There was some dialogue that was a bit too cheesy for me (so it’s more a 4.5 read) but overall GREAT BOOK!!!

Ps. Also please authors/creators take note I want hundreds of other books where girls band together to fight injustices because it’s freaking awesome!!

this was so good. well written, engrossing, believable, and also honestly super self-indulgent for me. only thing i didn’t like was a few of the passages about riot grrrl—made me wonder if i was reading a book for high school girls or for the women my age who hope to be cool riot moms. but viv was a well developed character and her relationships were all so good that i didn’t mind too much.

2021 reread (audio x2):
Still my favorite book. Audio narrator is still awesome. Picked up on even more layers this time around and it still makes me feel fierce and confident and proud AND I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE MOVIE. And I still love Seth bye
