I'm convinced that through the "protection" deal, she accidentally married him and he doesn't know how to tell her.

Fun take on demons - no romance yet.

I’m hoping it picks up in book 2, but so far I’ve enjoyed the character development and world building. I enjoy the culture clash and enmity between human and demon and becoming immersed in the world at the same time as the FMC.

Now this is the good stuff

A 2.5 is more accurate

The book is entertaining while maintaining a general “it’s ok” status. I enjoyed the characterizations and interactions very much, but there were enough plot inconsistencies and cliches to sour the overall enjoyability of the book, in my opinion. I hope to God this doesn’t devolve into a straight-up paranormal romance. I’m interested enough in the story to want to read the second book, but we’ll see whether the series improves from here. I’ll keep y’all posted!

Great start to a series

Wasn't sure about this book as I haven't read anything by this author before but as it was on kindleunlimited I thought I'd give it a go. It was a slow starter and I struggled to feel any empathy for Robin, the main character, but as it progressed I got into the story more and, while I still am slightly exasperated by Robin, I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to reading more.

3.5 stars.
That one was fun! I'm not too sure what to make of the heroine, though. For her 20 years, she reads very young...

In retrospect, this has [a:Ilona Andrews|21748|Ilona Andrews|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1588103544p2/21748.jpg] vibes. My favorite! But this is not that, so this is not my favorite. I guess my expectations didn't match what I got. What I expected: bangin'-hot demon romance. What I got: oddly structured urban fantasy with only the merest hints of attraction. Do not let the "romance" category marked on Goodreads fool you: this is like, not even the first act of a romance. It's like, the first 25% of a romance. 10% maybe, because there is not much happening there.

That being said, I want the...potential...of what this could become. So I'm continuing. I struggled with my rating and went with 3 stars. The characterization of the demon is very good, and I find him rather funny. I also like the atypical characterization of the lead: she's not a badass. I didn't really care about the MPD or whoever, but it was done pretty well.

I just wanted bangin'-hot steam and I didn't get it.
