Robyn’s life has been turned upside down, everything she knew 6 months ago is no more. She has lost her parents, she lives with her uncle, he won’t sort out her inheritance and he summons demons illegally. Wait what?! Right!

Robyn has spent her life avoiding magic under the guise of her parents, if she stays away from it, then it will stay away from her. However, both these worlds collide when she is forced to move in with her Uncle Jack. She discovers a library she isn’t allowed in and she is hunting for her mum’s grimoires which he has kindly hidden. In this library, however, there is a summoning circle and enticing dark swirls inside. Obviously, everyone knows to STEP AWAY from it, I mean has she not watched Constantine or Supernatural. Instead, she bakes cookies and throws them into the circle, only to have one thrown back at her and hit in the face – Sorry did have to chuckle at that bit!

Slowly but surely she builds a rapport with the demon, who we come to know, and care for, as Zylas and under a sneak attack from her step-cousin she becomes Zylas’ summoner under duress. When this happens it is meant to be done legally with a binding contract and you give up your soul. However, what they have done is illegal and what is exchanged is not her soul. I loved all these little quips because it made things so much more pure and innocent, as Robyn really is, she has no idea of this world and she has no clue to what she actually possess with this contract.

I love the interaction between Zylas and Robin, they have no clue about each other, their world and Zylas well he has no care for personal space which makes things at times a little bit flustered. Aside from this, there is SO MUCH ACTION! After an explosive escape from the house, we are never-ending with the action, you have lies, deceit, death and a lot of running for your life, it is just fab!

I really enjoyed this, it had for me remnants of Shadowhunters and Zylas the main demon reminded me of Nightcrawler from X-Men, so from the start a whole win-win situation. I loved the flow of Taming Demons for Beginners and it was completely action-packed. I was riveted to the pages in front of me. I am invested in Zylas and Robin’s story and where it might go and I love that you are made to care and potentially *swoon* over a demon, especially as demons generally want to kill you. Thankfully the 2nd book is out now plus there are other books that add to this world! I need to read them now!

If you love YA books with an added demon then this is for you. I am looking forward to discovering the rest of the world that is mapped out already. Who knew how much fun it could be having an illegal demon

Interesting world but really clunky writing.

Hello demon!

This is a fantastic first book in the spin-off series. I listened to it on audiobook and it was great, face-paced, full of action, banter, and great characters.

I really enjoyed that Robin isn't a badass straight off the bat, she kinda gave me Valma vibes. Zylas, the demon, is by far my favourite character, he is a great blend of blood thirsty, arrogant, curious, stoic and very observant. I loved how his character was introduced and the way in which Robin and he ended up bound together. The banter throughout was fantastic and so funny almost dorky in the way they bicker with each other. I am super keen to see where this goes, romance doesn't seem to be prominent in Annette's books, at least not in the ones I have read so far, but part of me hopes this will end up being a slow burn to something.

If you love urban fantasy, magic battles, demons and great banter, then definitely give this a read. (warning, it is meant to be read after some of the books in the original series The Guilded Codex: Spellbound.)

⭐️⭐️🌟⭐️⭐️ Stars

This book was written with crack, no joke. I literally finished it in one night and jumped right to the next one.

The dynamic between FMC Robin and Zylas is soooooo good. I loved how Robin wasn't perfect by any means, and she has so much to learn and grow as a character. Despite how weak she is, she is intelligent and kind. Zylas, at first, seemed selfish and conceited, but there is so much more to him! He is a cunning and curious demon who seems to have a small little soft spot for his contractor! I am so excited to see how their partnership develops in the series.

As for the plot, it low-key reminds me of an anime or manga. The world is so interesting, and to find out that this book is an offshoot of another series? Yeah, I'm gonna have to read those books, too!

Overall, I loved this book. I love Robin and Zylas. And I love Annette Marrie~ 🐥💕

This one was a bit slower to get into for me but I ended up really enjoying it!

This is a really fun urban fantasy story. I enjoyed the main characters Robin and Zylas. They have good chemistry and the mystery around their connection adds some interesting depth to the story. Most of the side characters are quite untrustworthy, which I don’t particularly like. I’m interested to see where this series goes, it has a lot of good potential.

This is the explanation of [b:Demon Magic and a Martini|43543701|Demon Magic and a Martini (The Guild Codex Spellbound, #4)|Annette Marie|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1548661897l/43543701._SY75_.jpg|67735710] happens and what is going on from a different POV.

I liked the banter in this book as much as in the original serie and I can't wait to read more.
I am wondering how the 2 series will mesh together, I mean, they have to right? I'm really excited to see how Robin and Zylas will fare in the guild!!!

Anyway, I love this 2 series very much! The wait in between books is shorter than most but it's always too long :)
