Synopsis:
Pierre Anthon won't concede the fact that nothing matters. Nothing matters. Nothing matters. And it drives the other kids insane. So they decide to prove him wrong. But in an attempt to compile a heap of "meaning," they start taking more and more risks, demanding more and more "meaning" of each other, until the heap represents everything they've lost...and everything they will never get back again.
My review:
Overall...eh. I mean, the premise started out great, don't get me wrong, and the contemporary writing style kept me going to see what was gonna happen next. But as the story went on, the stakes got higher and higher and it just all got...insane. I know that was the point, but the reason for the kids going insane felt stupid. One kid screams: "Nothing matters!" and everyone is bothered? Enough to cut off someone else's finger? Seriously? I never cared about idiots like that as a kid--I would've laughed and walked away. And yet, Pierre's heckling turns them all into murderers. Why? Becuase the author wants to prove that we're just animals, waiting for an excuse to kill each other? That worked in Lord of the Flies because they were literally STRANDED on an island and they were left to their own devices. I don't know...the story worked up to a certain point, but then I couldn't take it anymore. I have very little patience for stories that find obvious flaws in humanity, scream "Look at the horror!" and then have nothing else to offer. Everyone knows humanity sucks. So...what should we do about it?

Cómo tener una crisis existencial en tres simples pasos
Okay so I say I cry with almost every single one of my favorite books but right now I am honest to goodness crying. It's the ugly cry too. I didn't think I would like this book and it started off really slow. I am soo happy that I continued to read. I love love loved it! It so good don't even know what it was about but all I know is that it had meaning, a true and pure meaning. It took my breath away, literary. Completely amazing book, completely amazing.

Todos tenemos un Pierre Anthon dentro de nosotros, porque todos tenemos nada dentro de nosotros.
Absolut unmöglich geschrieben. So ein schlechtes Buch und ganz besonders so ein grässlicher Schreibstil ist mir ungelogen seit mindestens zwei Jahren nicht mehr untergekommen. Ich bemüh mich normalerweise sehr bei der Auswahl meiner Lektüre und komme selten an wirklich schlechte Bücher. Leider hab ich diesmal den Fehler gemacht, der Internet-Empfehlung eines Fremden nachzugehen. Versprochen wurde mir ein Buch mit besonders viel Tiefgang und bekommen habe ich gerade das, was ich so unbedingt zu vermeiden versucht hatte: ein schlechtes Buch mit Pseudo-Tiefe vom Feinsten. Ich hab mich ja schon beim Parfum beschwert, dass die Moral viel zu offensichtlich auf dem Silbertablett serviert wird, man hätte sich schon mehr einfallen lassen können, aber das hier ist ein komplett anderes Kaliber. Das Parfum ist wenigstens kein schlechtes Buch, einfach nicht der Geniestreich, den ich mir heutzutage von wirklich guten Romanen erwate. Aber dieses Buch war schlichtweg schlecht und nicht man am Silbertablett bekommt man sonderlich viel serviert.
Die Überlegung, dass nichts von Bedeutung ist, ist ja philosophisch total spannend, aber dieses Buch hat überhaupt gar nichts Philosophisches. Nur dumme Kinder.
Ich kenne kein Kind, das so dumm ist, wie die in dem Buch. Kein 8-Jähriges und schon gar kein 12-Jähriges. Ich hasse es, wenn Kinder so dumm dargestellt werden.
Das Buch ist makaber, aber nicht auf gute Art und Weise. Ein guter Schreibstil hätte da wahrscheinlich noch etwas rausreißen können, aber leider ..
Der Handlungsstrang und die Gedankengänge sind sinnlos und dumm. Philosophisch und für Menschen mit etwas Hirn absolut wertlos. Das eigentliche Thema wird mehr oder weniger ignoriert. Es macht nicht einmal Sinn Bedeutung an einem Berg zu sammeln und Finger abzuschneiden. Wir wär's, wenn ihr einfach alle an einem Tag etwas mitgebracht und dem Typen gezeigt hättet? Da hätte der Jan auch seinen Finger dran lassen können. Inwiefern zeugt es von Bedeutung, wenn es euch so wichtig ist, es einem unnötigen Ex-Klassenkollegen zu zeigen, dass ihr euch verstümmelt und stiehlt? Was beweist das? Wieso Bedeutung aufgeben? Alle diese Dinge hatten sicher mehr Bedeutung als die Meinung von dem Mensch im Baum. Und jedes halbwegs normale Kind weiß das und geht einfach weiter, for fucks sake.
