This is the kind of book I would've needed when I was younger - maybe then I wouldn't have wasted so many years feeling ashamed about having monolids and being Asian, wishing instead that I was white and Caucasian like girls in storybooks. This book is absolutely beautiful and uplifting, definitely recommend for readers of all ages 💛

Honestly, I read this to complete my reading goal but I wish I read picture books like this when I was a kid. It was so beautifully written and the illustrations are lovely. I'm definitely going to make my younger cousins read it.

A young Asian girl notices her eyes are different than her classmates whose eyes are "like sapphire lagoons." Her eyes "kiss in the corners and flow like warm tea." Her mother's eyes are the same as they tell her she's a miracle. Her Amah's (grandmother) eyes are "filled with so many stories." Mei-Mei (her big sister) eyes also kiss in the corner and make her feel like she can fly. By reveling in her mother's grandmother's and big sister's eyes, she learns to take pride in and love her eyes.
This read is perfect for teaching self acceptance, familial love, and for celebrating diverse backgrounds.
