"i have eyes that kiss in the corners and glow like warm tea. My eyes crinkle into crescent moon and sparkle like stars. Gold flecks dance and twirls while stories whirl into their oolong pools, carrying tales of the past and hope for the future."

what a beautiful picture book about self-acceptance, self-love and love for one's culture and roots <3

this book is for asian kids to learn to love and celebrate their asian eyes, that they have eyes that kiss in the corners and glow like warm tea ❤️

I read this book for a grad school class and I am SO glad I did. This book is beautiful. The artwork is gorgeous and the story is just was amazing. The idea of looking at what makes you different, finding the connections that gives you to others, and celebrating those differences? What more do you want from a picture book?

Nominated for the 2022 Washington State Children's Choice Picture Book Award, I just read this book to all my students. We loved the beautiful illustrations and we are inspired to find the stories in the illustrations and read them too. We talked about Amah and who has an Oma or a Nana. The book is loaded with metaphors and similes and could easily be used to introduce those literary devices and how to tell them apart. The publisher provides activity pages and the students loved the butterfly coloring page. They are asking for more (K-5)!
