"Some people have eyes like sapphire lagoons with lashes like lace trim on ballgowns, sweeping their cheeks as they twirl." This is the lyrical beginning to the author's debut picture book. A beautiful portrayal of a little girl explaining what makes her "different."

Lovely writing, superb art, amazing message!
5/5. I haven’t been this happy to receive a book in the post in a while! And it was great, I already teared up reading the blurb and the book itself is even better. The illustrations are also wonderful!! Definitely recommended.

this is one of the most beautifully illustrated children's books I've ever seen 🥺 💕
Lovely illustrations, intergenerational love, and warmth in this picture book. I thought the figurative language got a little bit messy at times, but at others it was perfectly lyrical.

This is an absolutely beautiful and heartwarming picture book! The illustration style kind of reminded me of a Pixar animation (It's not, but somehow it reminded me of it anyways?), which I really enjoyed! Plus, such rich language--so many examples of similes, metaphors, and personification for teachers to investigate with students and to just show the power of figurative language.
Eyes That Kiss in the Corners is an absolutely stunning book in every way. The message is one of absolute self-love, love for family, love for ethnic identity, love for culture, and just love for all the parts that make up the self. There is no hesitation in this self-love, this child simply loves herself and her family without question, and without any need for the story to ever have a point indicating that she has ever felt any differently. It is filled with so much joy that I just felt overwhelmed by it in a way that I experience rarely. The prose is absolutely lovely, with a cadence that is easy to read and beautiful imagery in the language that adds to the joy and love in ways that are easy to treasure. The illustrations are stunning on every single page, even the endpapers and title page.
An instant favourite for me, and one I would highly recommend.
