Took me a while to get used to her style of writing and the format having come from reading mainly narrative fiction. I feel Didion is at her best when capturing fleeting moments and feelings that are often forgotten or so delicate people don’t try to articulate them. But they’re essential parts of a human life. Some of the glamour of 60’s USA is delightful to be among with some of the murkier moments leaving dirt under your nails as a reader. This book made me feel companionship with Joan and admire her skill in capturing the mundane with such beauty and profundity

Insane choice for this to be my first read post ACOTAR, it was painful at times.
I have tried to read this book so many times - having loved the Didion doc I watched a few years ago, and also just because of its cult status and generally being regarded as the entry to Didion's work - but really I think I should've seen a sign in picking up and putting it down so many times, it is just Not For Me!!!
slow-paced

Every word is carefully chosen yet reads so effortlessly. So impressed…came to me at the right time
