This book had a great idea but it wasn't fleshed out fully. My biggest issue is the story is told from multiple povs. Of each character in the book club. They are all different ages, demographics from different socioeconomic backgrounds, different genders and sexual orientations. Yet somehow almost all the characters internal monologs sounded the same. I kept forgetting which characters perspective I was in. The only perspective that was distinctive was Arthur's. Also the ending was super predictable. I think the other thing that made it not as enjoyable is I had never read any of the books the book club read. It wasn't a bad book but I will never reread it and I'll probably donate my copy to a little library in my neighborhood.

This was fine. Pretty fluffy. Seemed like an abusive relationship between the two protagonists. He yells at her and she takes care of him. Didn’t sit well with me. I don’t love giving the elderly a pass to be a-holes. The single mom character was also pathetic. I guess that’s the point maybe? Just a lot of spineless characters. I did love the literary references though. Two of my fav books Joy Luck Club and Anne of Green Gables play a big part, which was fun for me.

This is platonic romance book that had some of the best character development I've read in a minute. I loved reading the different POV's and I totally cried at the ending. I have a soft spot for grumpy old men and I was immediately taken with Aruther, and totally understood Sloane. I loved the found family aspect and the strong sense of community that developed. And it all started at the library!

I love this book. The characters are wonderful. The lessons on life and death, love and friendship. It had me laughing all the way through. Then left me crying with no words for a proper review. I recommend it to everyone.
