I downloaded this with great excitement and then completely lost it in my NetGalley queue and only remembered I had it when I finished a book late at night but wasn't ready to sleep so I just started digging through my kindle library!

I absolutely loved The Beekeeper of Aleppo.  This story is equally heartbreaking but told in a unique way wherein the narrator is partly telling her story and partly writing it as The Book of Fire.

Irini & Tasso are a couple living in a forested area of Greece with their young daughter Chara.  Their lives are upended when a fire suddenly breaks out and spreads with such speed that the entire village is forced to flee down toward the sea.  The Book of Fire tells the story of their survival and struggle to come to terms with the fallout.

An interesting book exposing some key current issues in an accessible and easy to read way.

I really enjoyed the themes in this book. It touches on global warming, the beauty of the land and how overdevelopment and greed can destroy. It follows the really traumatic events of a fire and how it destroyed the lives on an entire village and community.

I just really didn’t like the writing style, this story dragggggs on and an on. There’s duel POV’s but it gets very repetitive

I did enjoy the story and the themes I just don’t think the writing was for me personally

The Book of Fire is beautifully written, with vivid, lyrical descriptions that bring every scene to life. The story is gripping and timely, weaving climate change and immigration into a powerful narrative. At times it hit a little too close to home, leaving me sad, but that’s also what makes it so impactful. A moving and important read.

I thought this was an informative book about the reality of climate change in warmer countries and the danger of forest fires. I didn't enjoy it as much as the other books I've read by Lefteri - I felt the story was a bit drawn out at times, repeating certain aspects of the story, likely for emphasis, but I didn't connect with it any more by its use. Overall the effect of the devastating fire that the book is centred on was well written. I thought the plot made the themes of the book more impactful.

Some really harrowing imagery in this which Leferity always does so well.
Thought provoking themes regarding community, stewardship of the earth, and the importance of family.
