Yawn.

Just to get it out-of-the-way, you need to remember that this is a work of fiction based on historical figures who are real. It is exaggerated for excitement and entertainment, if you can get past this part, it is a wonderful read!

If you are aware of Henry IIIV and his wives, you know that the Tudors give an interesting piece to history! The story moves really well, and is definitely a page turner! It is interesting to get the perspective of “the other Boleyn girl” instead of Anne the infamous 2nd wife.

This book has everything you could look for in a history based novel - religious speculation, forbidden romance, politics, spicy content, family drama, Love and hate, competition, murder mystery, questionable morals, secrets, and more!

You don’t have to be aware of the actual history to enjoy this book, but it does have fun things involved if you are aware! Definitely an enjoyable one, just remember it is a work of fiction based on real events, not to be taken word for word as historical fact! Have fun with it!

This was the november pick for Vaginal Fantasy Book club and I LOVED it! I have always been fond of the Tudors, as a kid I always fancied myself somewhat of an Anne Boleyn lover, she was my favorite of the poor wives, so this delving into her history, and her sister's especially, was super fascinating. It isn't a standard smutty romance, and you end up sympathizing a lot with how women were treated, how Henry the 8th behaved and WHY he did what he did. I have done some research (ie read Wikipedia haha) since, and of course this isn't TOTALLY accurate, but the drama of it is very entertaining in a sort of soapy-history sort of way.

I loved this book so much, I can't wait until I read it again some other time. The way the story unfolded and how it was told through Mary's eyes was great. It took me some time to finish, not too sure why, but I thought it was amazing. I watched the movie before this and I loved it as well. I had no idea it was based on the book, and not the just on Henry and one of his, what was it, six wives? It is definitely on my faves list.

I just think it's interesting that the author chose to age Mary down to be a twelve year old bride and fourteen year old mistress when, historically, she was in her 20s when this stuff went down. Kinda weird, Philippa.

Anyway. I love Tudor history, and, by extension, Tudor historical fiction, so this was my jam. Managed to be gripping even though I knew how it ended, so I have to give props for that. But the older I get, the angrier I get at how badly everyone treated each other. Just wild.

Really enjoyed this … the story/boleyn family was really fascinating and I had not known most of this . Middle felt like it dragged on too long so it was a bit hard to get through but the last 100 pages made up for it

It's very long but the best book I've ever read
