3.5 stars!

I miss my girl jude but this was definitely still enjoyable! I loved being back in this world and getting to read about Oak. Some parts were a bit boring but overall it was a fun read!

My number one complaint about this book is Black’s writing style makes me feel like I missed some very obvious that EVERYONE ELSE KNOWS and I don’t, BUT I DIDN’T MISS ANYTHING, I PROMISE I REREAD EVERY TIME I WAS CONFUSED.

I understand Oak is supposed to be a fairy and kinda tricky and blah blah blah, but it comes off frustrating and demeaning and I deal with enough of that in real life.

That being said, plot was good, all the characters except for Wren were cool and made me buy in. MORE TIERNAN AND HYACINTHE!!

Holly Black has done it again. If she wrote 50 books set in this world, I’d read them all.

3.5 ⭐️ (rounding up for Oak, and because I really enjoyed Wren as the narrator! this is such an upgrade from cruel prince narration)

I honestly loved this so much.

I think my one criticism (and it's something I feel with the original trilogy too) is that I wished plotlines went for longer !!!! I know this is ya and the books are short but I am always left wanting MORE.

I love Wren and Oak and I definitely think they will be so much more fleshed out in the sequel and I love the new stuff we learned about faerie and I love their relationship it was a breath of fresh air.

And I'll be honest sometimes reading spin-offs can feel like reading the original work in a different font but I did not feel that way at all this was great!
