The layout and prompts are creative. I enjoyed reading the short stories and it even encouraged me to try several of the prompts. Great read for the classroom.

Five stars for creativity! The premise of this book is fantastic and definitely gets those wheels turning. I read it with my 11 year old and she absolutely LOVED it. As expected, the responses are a mixed bag. Short stories are a good place for authors to get out of their box and explore. Some of the stories are sad, some are more grown up with boyfriend/girlfriend talk, and a couple of them are downright creepy. I’d reserve it for middle school or higher, but still the idea behind it is amazing and this is definitely a book to share!

Would make a great book for ELA / Reading teacher trying to incorporate more creative writing into their classrooms. Share the prompt then read the professional author's response alongside student responses.

This book is not what I thought it was at first thumb through. I assumed it was a book where different creative children's book people wrote prompts for kids to read and respond to. It is SO MUCH MORE!

Colby Sharp pulled together a club of authors and illustrators and had them submit writing/illustrating prompts. Then, those same creatives had to respond to the prompts and they are nothing short of genius. The end of the book contains more prompts for readers or reader's students/children to use.

Another teacher-friend and I were sharing how difficult it is to share a prompt and have students stare blankly stating, "What do we do? What do you want us to write?" The freedom of creativity has left the school building. With this book, we can share a prompt, have kids do some brainstorming, share an author/illustrator response as an example, and let the students go to it.

Buy this book. Sure, it's in our school library, but I need it for my own use. Parents who encourage creativeness at home - you'll want this, too. Need something to do while stuck at home during a world pandemic? Order now!

Opening this book is like diving into a lake made of magic. The prompts are outstanding, and the responses even BETTER than you’d expect (despite a line-up of some of the best writers in children’s literature). This should be on the shelves of every teacher’s classroom and in the heart of every creator.
