A classic.

The only reason I came to know of this book was through a stage adaptation I was acting in - I was playing Hubert - but still I remained curious enough to see where the idea came from as more times than not I happened to confuse it with The Secret Garden, then again I don't really read many books aimed at a younger audience.

The book is easy to follow and it's even got some memorable moments (the scene with Mrs. Bartholomew is quite emotional) and the characters work well in this type of story.

Taking such a short time to read this doesn't say much about my reading habits, but it does prove that if you have a good concept and you run with it the pages will turn themselves. Like I said I don't usually read books aimed at children but I did like how it was partly grounded in reality as it helped to highlight the fantasy elements to greater detail.

I may be speaking objectively but I don't think it should deter you to check out this book. I may be a cynical adult man but for what this book was it pleasently surprised even me.

Really interesting plot and a brilliant book for children. Found that it is dated in some ways but remarkably current considering how long ago it was written. Just felt that some sections were unnecessary and therefore I found it difficult to focus on these parts and found myself just skimming the second half until the next interesting point. Interesting end

I re-read this after it was mentioned in The Librarian (Salley Vickers). Just as good as I remembered. Part of me wishes I could be Hatty (without the evil Aunt).

The last lines in the book struck me hard in the ol' heartstrings:

‘He ran up to her, and they hugged each other as if they had known each other for years and years, instead of only having met for the first time this morning. There was something else, too, Alan, although I know you’ll say it sounds even more absurd … Of course, Mrs Bartholomew’s such a shrunken little old woman, she’s hardly bigger than Tom, anyway: but, you know, he put his arms right round her and he hugged her good-bye as if she were a little girl.’

Oh, this symbolism of embracing your childhood goodbye with such love. Oh, god.

such a fun and quick read, follows Tom and his adventure through time meeting new people with different seasons. While doing that he also keep on sending letter to Pette about the adventure that he had been through.

I love the each narrator represent different characters on the book, also the special sound effect throughout the audiobook make me felt like I'm watching a movie, incredible
