I read this book many, many years ago and I remember that, the first time, I cried a lot and loved read this book (even though there was a hot rage deep inside me) and I thought it deserved 4 stars.
I still believed that I must love all books, I guess. Because if I had thought about it, I would have put 2.5 stars on it.
Today I rate it with only 2 stars because there were parts that I liked and because sometimes, only sometimes, when I want some anguish, I read this book again. And because honestly, it doesn't deserve just 1 star. I've read worse books (insert all Penelope Ward books).
One thing I hate about Colleen Hoover is that she creates amazing male characters (??? ok just two). That they love in such an intense and powerful way. But they always happen in the wrong context. Always. Or maybe it's the right one, for her and hers type of readers of hers. On the other hand, I hate anguish so...
I don't need any passionate, intense heroes to be placed in a love triangle, or some cheat book, or some other book where he can't get over his past and call out his ex-girlfriend's name while fucking the heroine (although Miles doesn't It strikes me as the intense passionate type, he was a fool. I hate him so much), or where he separates from heroin and then raises a child with that his brother's widow and they have sex. Or... well, insert all the Colleen Hoover books.
All of her heroes screw it up really hard, but my favorite -and most hated (he is the most hated because when I love someone a lot and they disappoint me, I hate them more than the rest. But being objective, some of Colleen's heroes are so terrible that I vomit in disgust just thinking about them)- will always be Ridge. I would have loved to meet Ridge in a different context. He probably would have given him 5 stars because he was beautiful.
I'm being very generous here, because I hated him every time he chose Maggie over heroin lol. Practically most of the time, then. But despite that, Ridge and Syd's moments were very beautiful (too bad he had to screw it up later by saying some painful stupidity and choosing Maggie). But if we put that shit aside, Ridge really has a very intense love that I want to see in all the male heroes in the world!!!

On the other hand, all this seems to me very unfair to Syd. By the way, I don't like her. She let herself be trampled badly, ugh. It seems very unfair to me because Maggie will always be present in Ridge's life, we see it in the second book, when she behaves like a bitch and tries to sabotage Ridge and Syd's relationship. I think even Syd deserves more. But in the end they all fix their shit. I would have sent them to hell.
I'm being a bit fickle in this review, first throwing flowers at Ridge and then saying he would have sent him to hell. ¿¿:D?? Apologies. It's what he causes me.
And ugh, please, let's talk about the porn addict friend who gets a book. What was is his name...? Warner? Whatever. He had an equally strange name to me. Anyway, he was shit. He constantly hurt Syd, I don't understand why that Syd kept him as a friend despite everything. Are there not more people in the world?
God save me from being as isolated and alone as the heroines in these books.
90% of these girls would not have stayed with the heroes of their books if they had good friends. Someone sane would have advised them: "kick that dirty ass, you deserve more girl"

God this is the messiest review I've ever written. But it's what the book does to me.
If I could sum it up it would be like "The hero loved another girl very much in the past and present, but while he is with her he finds... his soul mate, so to speak. And they both behave like such. You feel the intense chemistry and they are so cute together. Of course, he fucks things up by constantly treating her badly for falling in love with her and damaging his relationship with his beautiful Maggie in the process, and he says a lot of hurtful things to her as well. She's very dumb. Lots of heartbreak and songs in the process. Maggie breaks up with Ridger and then he goes to find Syd. Syd knows Ridger's heart is loyal to Maggie (he admits it too) And if Maggie asked him, he would return to her in a blink of an eye and abandon Syd, so for the first time in her life, she recognizes her self-love and lets him go. Months later they meet again and are together, when Ridge has already overcome his loyalty for Maggie and is solely loyal to Syd. And yes, this book sounds like shit and Ridge too. But I swear, if we cut the whole Maggie thing... (which is pretty much the whole book omg) and read just the Syd and Ridge moments, this could make it really cute. Sadly, he really loved his ex-girlfriend. "
Fuck, that summary was horrible. If I write it like that, this book sucks LOOOOOL.

Anyway, why am I reviewing a book I read when I was 14 years old?

This is a reread for me. Originally gave it 5 stars but now that I’ve read better books I’m giving it a 4 (probably could be less but I still like it for nostalgia)

Just another coho book with a despicable sleazy cheating male main character a passive weak female main character who acts like a doormat to the mmc , and a bland storyline that romanticizes cheating ..... how is this romance exactly ? He didn't even chose her ,his ex made the choice for his indecisive gross ass
It ain't a coho book if it doesn't involve a yucky- should-not-be-allowed-around-women mmc and a will-forgive-anyone-for-dragging-her-through-dirt fmc
