Pretty Revenge was such an entertaining read! This book had all the drama and backstabbing I could hope for, and I had so much fun watching this book play out. I liked that it was a pretty straightforward story, and I found it to be refreshing. I hope to read more from Emily Liebert!

The storyline was not a surprise as were the twists. I thought this was a fine book. I did keep reading it in the hopes that in my opinion and feelings towards this book would get better. They didn't really change. Even when I got to the "big reveal"; I was like that is it. In fact, I was a little upset by the ending.

Jordana and Kerrie were "too nice" for my taste when it comes to psychological thrillers. There was more conversation than there was "revenge". As they story went on; things did start happening to Jordana via Kerrie's doing but it was subtle in my eyes.

Therefore, when you add the two elements together, the overall vibe of the book was "just alright" for me. I was left craving more.

Review coming!

This was a very fast read but didn't think it had enough "meat" to the story to sink my teeth in. Didn't quite get the suspension with the revenge plot but was an okay read.

My Thoughts:

I was intrigued by this book when I first started seeing it all over social media. It’s one of those books where you read the synopsis and it leaves you wondering. In this case it was what did Jordana do that was so bad that Kerrie wants to ruin her life the same way she did to hers all those years ago?!

Let’s dive in.

Kerrie’s desire for revenge is still going strong after all these years. She breaks up with her boyfriend and moves from Connecticut to New York City after seeing Jordana on tv. Jordana’s wedding business is skyrocketing after landing the wedding of the century, and she needs an assistant. Kerrie applies for the job, but she introduces herself as Olivia, and is hired.

Although Jordana thought Kerrie/Olivia looked familiar, she never placed her. Correct me if I’m wrong, but if I wronged someone I don’t think I would ever forget their face. This is something I thought Jordana would eventually figure out, but she didn’t. I think Jordana was so busy and overworked personally and professional, that she was just happy to find someone who was willing to work hard and help keep business on track.

Things were going well. Business was good, Kerrie made a friend in her apartment building, and Jordana was building a nice safety net that she would need later on.

At several points, I thought Kerrie was going to drop her revenge plot, come clean to Jordana, and everything would be ok. I think she realized Jordana didn’t have the life she thought she did. Heck I wouldn’t want Jordana’s life. Her husband is a successful business man and they live a very cushy lifestyle, but appearances can be deceiving. Still after learning more about Jordana’s life, Kerrie moved forward with her plan.

The chapters go back and forth between the two ladies. You will learn what happened that night, but the story doesn’t end there. You won’t know who to root for, so like myself, you may root for both Kerrie and Jordana. For me that’s a rarity when you find yourself torn between characters.

The ending surprised me, and it will surprise you too! I thought the ending was the icing on the cake.

I won this book through one of the authors Instagram giveaways. I enjoyed this book, and I think you will too! Released on July 2nd you can pick your copy up now!

As someone who reads thrillers non-stop, this was a nice break from my usual crime and murder drama. While the cover certainly depicts more heinous deeds, I was pleasantly surprised to find a compelling story filled with humor, forgiveness, sex and a touch of romance. While “revenge” was clearly the main idea of the story, I found it wasn’t what made the book enjoyable. Rather overcoming the reasons we seek revenge, forgetting the past, and moving on with our future no matter how uncertain, were clearly the underlying message. This book truly delivered a great story and I’d definitely recommend it to readers of all genres.

(2.5) As someone who loves revenge, this book was a big old fucking disappointment. I was under the impression this was a thriller, but it was basically just a contemporary. As a contemporary it was totally enjoyable, but my expectations for it definitely factored into my enjoyment. It did center around wedding planning which is lowkey one of my favorite professions in fiction so not all bad.
